View Full Version : camping in brecon june/july
im thinking of planning a weekend camping
basic plan would be camp at rhyader, which is pretty central for BP, midlanders, taffia, mofos, etc
turn up friday few beers
sat ride out, a version of the TT
sat night more beer
sunday recover from hangover/ go to the beach / swimming in the river
i will sort the route out, but could probably do with a bit of help sorting out the campsite
anyone intrested........ im just after a rough idea of how many
the TT is a great route, and this would give you the oppertunity to do it, and not have to get up at stupid o'clock to make the start, plus you can relax after the ride with a few beers............ what more could you possible want?
Yeah, some fantastic roads - cheers
was a great route - cheers
what a ride :D best bit for me has to be the road after lunch, what a peach!
.
Fantastic roads on offer. .

i would of suggested the Camping field in Talybont but it's being used for the upgrades of the Treatment works. Sounds grand tho.

Wyeside in Rhayader popular with bikers. Right on Wye, and about 5 mins to the town for the many pubs / chippie / takeaway / Coop etc. Thats the advantage fopr a bike weekend, you are not in the sticks.
So kind of middle of your routes I guess, or take a lovely run over to Aber.
You cant book, gets busy but never full. Been there a good few times with Advrider crowd.

You should never be up late and noisy on a public campsite. Fine until 10.30 I'd say then reasonable behaviour.
5 mins max to pub
No food, 5 mins to pub, chippy, shops.
Sounds good Hovis - let us know the details when sorted.
iindeed........ i will probably leave a bit of a gap from yours, as to give peeps to save a bit of cash, but it wont be that expensive

I'll go if there are a few token females. A weekend of male bonding is too gay for me.
Why not try Talybont Farm camp site( not quite Brecon but close), basic facilities but good value & close to the pubs in Talybont, good food real ale no fast food though

Where to in Talybont is it? I know talybont pretty well and only camp site i know of is by the water works which is currently full of diggers.
I would love to go if my life is sorted out

the camp site you are thinking of if i am right is up by the reservoir. have used that one quite alot in past years, but as you say its now full of diggers, pity

i'll do the TT again no doubt - i'll give the camping a miss though - that won't go down well at home if the kids aren't going

I know it's before you go over the draw bridge. Yeah it's a shame but before they started work they had 1 hour's worth of protection before the water down to newport was not treated. Now they have 4-8 hours instead.
But the road around the res up to the A465 is a beauty of a road, as long as hovis isn't pushing his seat cowl back down all the time.
Wyeside in Rhayader looks good,

i would rater be closer to merthyr/brecon, though
probably july.....
i will do a poll. so if you want to throw some dates at me, crack on.
well, whatever dates i will have to call in sick so dont bother me! i do have august free though!
hmmmm
may is a bit busy
the other SW camping trip has yet to be decided on the date its looking like 6-7 june, and i wanted to give a bit of a gap, to give peeps chance to sort them selves out 20-21 june could be a on, but thats fathers day, i cant do 27-28 june
so july is looking about the best option,
the AR is 1st week of august.

I'll go if there are a few token females. A weekend of male bonding is too gay for me.

Would be interested Hovis. Will have bags of spare time around July. Only thing stopping me would be money implications.

Hope you guys have a blast. Will be thinking of you whilst sat on a beach with a mojito! X
Hovis just book it for which weekend suits you, if you pick a weekend when you work late on the Sunday. Then worse case your an hour or two late for work! No change there then ;-)

Pick a weekend that suits you best, if your going to be doing the organsing then it needs to fit around what you're doing.

im going with either july
3-4-5
10-11-12
17-18-19
at the moment 10-11-12 is the best for me, as im afternoons on the sunday and mornings on the sunday for the other 2, but if all goes acording to plan, the other 2 will be better, as im hoping to get them off, so i realy have no preferance, YET, so i will do a poll, just to see if there is an outright winner,

Is it ok for a Brummy & his bird to tag along? If so put my name down on the list and let me know where to send the deposit.

Brecon eh!..
The scene of some of the funniest sights, we was staying a real dodgy hotel in the centre of brecon with a nightclub at the back. One local hill billy was so wasted he tried flashing my daughter through the hotel bar window. when she pointed and laughed he thought she found him funny. No she was laughing at the two coppers about to grab him.
Oh, word of warning, watch the curries. Only place I have been able to fold a popadom in half without snapping it.
Know which one of the dates you're going for yet Hovy Baby???
Either way, i'll probably make it... So just need to know when to book time off work.
