Those forks look great on that blue pointy - is that your new one bibio?

me too

yes that is the current mile muncher and i must say it's even better than my last one \\:D/

Cool. That's why I wanted the proper projectors, because the scatter from car hid's can be annoying.

Yeh they are feckin bright. I was messing about with mine yesterday and even though it was broad daylight they were still lighting up the driveway :p

the projectors will come later :-)

it isn't that bad to tell the truth. just a bit skyward pointing  only a cppl people flashed last night as i was coming over a crests.

yes well i'm sick of 'taking the wrong roads' i just want to go places and not have to worry about 'is this the turn' its causing me stress that i could do without. i can't be arzed having to think of routes in my head any more i just want to enjoy myself so a spaznav fits the bill. another reason for a spaznav is that you have a list of petrol stations etc.etc at hand when needed. besides i can always turn it off if i want.

Bibio
02-07-11, 05:02 PM

If I'm not there don't wait for me. I had a run through to Cupar today to get some mirrors and thought I smelt melting silicone when I was sitting at the lights. Got to Cupar and the front and back parts of the lights were loose. :(

That's the only place I used silicone. Everywhere else I used that UniBond Extreme power glue. I used the silicone in case I ever needed to separate the two pieces to get in to the reflector or wiring. But it looks like silicone isn't up to the job. So I've just taken it all apart, cleaned it up and sealed it again with the unibond stuff. Hopefully it will be set by tomorrow morning and I can join you guys

I had a slight collision with a VW passat at a hump backed bridge between Pitlochry and Braemar.

The bridge was very narrow with signs either side telling you to be aware of oncoming traffic. As you come off the bridge it corners a bit to the left. I was just about off the bridge when this elderly gentleman decided to come onto it. He had kind of moved his car out onto the road to get onto the bridge so when I was almost round the bend I was met with him and practically nowhere to go.

I ended up going right along the side of his car. I keep putting it down to my inexperience and thinking that any of you lot would probably have managed passed. I wasnt going fast as I dont really go too fast at the best of times. There just wasnt enough room for me and the bike to get past. I had a brick wall on one side and his car on the other.

I had no witnesses and he was in the car with his wife. Its in the hands of the insurance companies now and the Poilcewoman who came said that they will act on her report.

As far as damage goes, his car got it pretty bad. My crash bung vanished and the bolt that holds it on is now at 90 deg. My indicator got knocked off and the toeslider on my right boot is gone as well. There is a very slight scuff on the fairing next to where the Crash bung was. I think my confidence has taken more damage than the bike.

04-07-11, 07:18 PM
You did well to keep the bike upright and on the road by the sounds of it. I'd have picked car over stone wall on the other side!

Sorry to hear about the damage to the bike. Best thing to do is to get back on and get back out there.

*hug*

Cheers Jen,

I was quite amazed myself that I was still on the bike once I had passed the car.

We went from the accident spot up to Braemar then home so I didnt really have much choice but to just get back on it. Probably for the best as you say. I thought I handled it better mentally than I actually did and Lance noticed right away that I had slowed down considerably (if possible).

fenjer
04-07-11, 09:09 PM
We've all done it love, given ourselves a fright and then rode home like we were sitting on a pin and driving Miss Daisy afterwards.

Once you sit down and process things like that it makes it seem so much worse.

Well done for keeping the bike up. And well done for getting going again, yes you had a knock and it shook you up a bit but look on the bright side, minor repairable damage to the bike and no damage other than probably a clean pair of boxers to you.

When I get back we can go for a bimble and you will see that you are not the slowest rider around.

artful.. glad yer in one piece... if that wid have been me [as i cant see past a hump back bridge] id have landed on his bonnet.... well hopefully the insurance wont put it down to a 50 50...but if youve got off with very light damage,.,, an no injury,, yer winning already..., i was gonna meet ye`s on sunday there,, but a wasnt sure if it was SV`s only... an me without a sv... wasnt sure.... glad yer ok..

2 years ago...i was doin 35mph goin past a gas station 10.30 at nite,, a summer nite ona main road.. when this Jeep just decided to turn right into the gas station,, it was if it was in slow motion as i clicked ma heels as i was goin over the top of his jeep.. i was on a trail bike a dommie... the bars came round to ma left an an stuckinto ma left side.. luck had it that i had ma tobacco tim in ma pocket,,as a think thats what saved me fae gettin punctured,,as it squashed the tin like a crisp poke wi a flame under it... i was flat out on the road after clearing the jeep...... the guy got out all appology`s.. sayin it was his fault.. he said he jist didnt see me,,, he was jist home fae being abroad an was goin in to the gas station fur ciggys.... i got upo,,took details.. dusted off an headed off..... WRONG MOVE.. i should hve lay there an waited fur the ambulance an the police... but if it ever happens again,, thats what al be doin,,, as when its recorded like that ye have a MUCH better chance wi that insurance we pay.... I ripped the pocket off ma jeans.. scuffed ma mudguard,, an twisted ma bars....

at home the next day... i straightened ma bars an a was as happy as Larry,, until,, i went fur a pee, an saw that ma under carriage was al black.... went tae the hospitial an took pics of it,, i say it,,,as ye know whit a mean eh !!! that took nearly two years before pay out came... but it was worth it in the end... i got 600 fur damages to ma jeans an ma helmet that i said incurred an jacket an gloves.. if i had the reciepts of the clothing ad have got twice as much... 800 fur damage to ma bike... an 2500 fur injury....... so a winner al round.... so if i was you,, id go see a doctor an tell him yer a bag of nercves now.. an yer not sure ye`l be doing yer hobby again.. biking.. as ye cant bring yersel tae go back on teh bike,, ye have to plead asif yer a bag of nerves... cause they insurance companies,, wont pay out unless they need to........ and, before i forget.. third party ins,, isnt worth the paper its wrote on.... fully comp all the way fae then on ..in ma car.. ma van.. an ma bike..... unless ye get on tae yer insurance.. they will NOT chase it up. act fast.......... rant over......cheers. as they say...

Mr Artfull had a very narrow escape with that one. it could have been a lot worse and as far as i'm concerned it was most defo the car driver at fault.

you done well m8. your a better man than me as i would be in court for GBH.

as for being shook up a little, its only natural. ooohhh and given the same circumstances i would have hit the car like you so its not down to your driving its just one of those misfortunes that occur on roads. it can happen at any time no matter what vehicle you are in/on.

apart from that it was a cracking day and great company as per usual. thanks everyone.

Splendid day out and I learned two exciting new games: Sat-Nav Roulette :compcrash: and Bibio's Farmyard Challenge! :smt117

Cracking run though, perfect weather, some fine roads and a few chuckles along the way. Some might say a 260 mile round trip to get a tank of petrol is excessive (Mrs Sputnik for example) but not me. Good to also put some faces to names - nice to meet you Bibio, Terah and Artful.

bit of a screwed up day but most enjoyable none the less.

btw, if i had continued on the planned route after Terah had said he was on 90 miles he would have had another 75 till petrol back at Hawick.

that back road was fun :-) got to see parts that nobody apart from local people see.

i'm going to be deleting those feckin petrol stations out the spaznav. the spaznav was right it was the dummy looking at it rofl.

thanks for putting up with me today. i had great fun.

it was nice to finally meet sputnik. was a bit weird with the meeting though. at first i thought that we had someone just tagging along for the ride :-).

another weird one for the day was this morning as i was leaving the lockup compound there was an SV1000 naked and a dark candy red half faired curvy leaving at the same time. dont think they are forum members though.

Can't take it off myself in case the doctor says it aint healed yet and tells me cause i removed it then im on my own. Can't work on the bike to get it ready to go back out again either.

If you're doing one on the 28th I may well tag along depending where you run it :)

Looking for a place to stay (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=169687) for a couple days around the borders from the 26th. Can stay up for a maximum of 3 nights before I need to head back home on the Monday.

If, you happened to be staying round here, you can do Dumfries/Moffat ish to Glasgow in about an hour and a half - so very do'able to make Chucca's Sunday run...

Would like to join you but my back is totally spazzed. Actually it has been since shortly after our last Kielder(?) attempt but I'm hoping that's just coincidence! Two weeks in a caravan in Devon on a bed made for stumpy-types, long piggy-backs for small sons and hours in the driving seat haven't helped though. Hope to make it out again soon before the end of the nice Summer weather. Ha, do you see what I did there!! Wherever you go, have a good un...

Hi Bibio,

nice to meet you and your chums out on your Sunday "Bimble", even though I no longer have my SV. I ended up going north had a run up the A7 and back down by Peebles and Selkirk, never saw any more rain.

Cheers ... Duck

We saw plenty more rain en-route down South. We even got battered with hailstones for good measure. My ears are still ringing.

Great day though and a nice 330 mile run. Stunning scenery as well on the road from St Mary's.

cracking day and one of the best runs i have had all year. only two hiccups all day. one was peter doing a disappearing act and the other was a hilarious shortcut that the spaznav took.

great company, stunning scenery, fantastic roads and a nice leisurely pace. weather was a bit mixed and the hailstones were a surprise.

thanks to peterco, artful and terah for the company.

was nice to bump into another orger named duck. nice bike you have there duck.

Judging by your route I'm guessing it was you guys we passed going through Blairgowrie? I was on a blue pointy with a street triple, we did a similar route but the opposite direction. How are the roads up around loch Rannoch? We were eyeing them up but went for the safe bet instead and just stuck with what we knew, a tractor taking up the whole road in front of the google streetview car put us off a bit I think!

another truly stunning day and great company, thanks Darren and Artful. sun was out and the traffic was sparse. the only slight downside of the whole day was a rain shower at Braemar and Artful doing a confused.com moment :-) i must be getting used to the spaznav as there was only 1 u turn. total mileage for me was 342.

yup it was us :D

we decided to cut it short at the Tummel and head over to Aberfeldy but the roads round that area are not to bad compared to the B974/976 which are still littered with sand.
