subject to weather playing ball.

On your route - Moniaive to Carsphairn is a cow sh*t covered single track! :-( Bloody awful in a car and worse on a bike, you will want to end your life before Carsphairn !!!! Not fun.
Stay on the road to Dalry, then turn right up to Carsphairn, more miles but is quicker and the road from Moniaive to Dalry is a belter, surface not brilliant in parts, but bits of it are great. (I learned to ride the SV on this road).

Can't join you, as am up in Dunoon for the weekend, and if I wasn't I would be rallying MG's around a field !!!!

Not trying to teach my granny to suck eggs, but there are some crap bits on your route !!!!:smt017

Look at the link above. I did this route on Sunday with a boy over from Ireland for the day, and I have to say it was an absolute belter. Every bit of it is a great bit of road. Some gravel sprayed around, over Queensway and other places, but only small % of the whole route.

Moniaive to Carsphairn up to ayr and then down to Girvan ain't much fun, Moniaive to carspahirn is ****, especially after all this rain we're having. Electric brae nowt to get excited about on a motorbike, no matter how hard I try i doesn't have the same effect as in a car.

Have a look at Myrouteapp.com, use it to plan all my routes then send to the Garmin.

Bibio
27-06-17, 08:35 PM
leccy brae.. well i'm down that way so might as well :-)

i'm going to give the moniaive to carspahirn a bypass and head on down to dalry then up the A713

i'm doing the route anticlockwise as i like going from girvan over to newton stewart. i dont know why i like it anticlockwise and i have done it both ways but i just think it works better that way.

i normally come down via carnwath, rigside, muirkirk, cumnock, ayr, leccy, girvan, newton, queens, moniaive, dalveen, biggar, carnwath or straight up the A702.

easier for LOM to get to selkirk as the start and end in hawick so thought i would mix it up a little :-)

i like tyre, it works perfect, myrouteapp is by the makers of tyre :-)

Bibio
29-06-17, 08:30 PM
i'm keeping an eye on the weather as it looks like its going to be scattered showers in D&G on sunday. if it is then its no fun as the roads there deserve dry conditions.

if there is a chance of showers then the best weather is 'borders' so it will be a run down to the north pennines.

DarrenSV650S
29-06-17, 10:07 PM
Just as an experiment, could you not plan a run for next Sunday, just to see if the weather clears up

SIII
30-06-17, 07:58 AM
You could just take a raincheck and do it on the 9th instead !!!!! I hear the weather is going to be dry and bright on the 9th ;-)

See you there 11:30 ~ 11:45, about 40 minutes from Biggar to there.

Hi and sorry to butt in, and divert ..but..I'm hoping someone can remind me what was that road we used to ride out west of Loch Lomond.. the one that was renowned for giving your two wheels an involuntary lift in the air..always fun..I think it was near the green welly maybe?..ended up at a loch front small village?? Do you ken the one I mean? Was it the A83? And what was its nick name?? Memory clearly not serving me well..must be getting older..and having been outa Scotland now for too long. Good to see you all still at it! Miss the ride outs much! :D

depends which way your going on the A82 from Balloch up is ok if you take in the wibbly to the A83. going down the A82 from Crainlarich is better but still nothing spectacular.

now if you want a spectacular road then it has to be A816 Connel to Lochgilphead if you can get a good run at it.

inveraray to tindrum A819/A85 is fun :-)

answering removed post that was above..

I had an absolute blast :D nice meeting you guys, and ill defo be down for another one! (without the offroading mind...)

re-watched my off, and no idea what the feck i was doing. likely corner fixation as you suggested Lance, wasn't going fast, just clearly wasn't paying enough attention to the change in the corner.
MEGA lucky... about 5ft after i rejoined was a nice rocky drop into the field...

Bibio
17-07-17, 12:58 PM
your more than welcome to join the bimbles anytime. most are not so exciting as that though as that route is one of the best. the road surfaces might be a bit ermmm dodgy but its worth it.

not luck, rider control of situation. a lot of people would have just crashed. mark it up to experience and pin a badge. double apex corners catch a lot of people out.

i get target fixation on one corner every fekin time and its a road i know very well but i still do it. the road we took from st mary's over the hill to innerleithen there is a left hand bend with a drain grate that is sunk into the road on a bad surface and its on the inside apex, i go over it every time. i have ridden that road since i was a teen.

Well that was a big pile of pish. The roads were packed with tourist traffic, it was raining most of the time. Then an extra long lorry had got stuck, blocking the whole road. So I had to filter through about 2 miles of stuck tourists, caravans and buses on a tiny twisty road. And it wasn't even wide enough to filter. I had wriggle my way past every car wing wirror. Even got told off my a bus driver for touching his bus with my mirror. Then I got stuck behind a coach that was struggling to get past all the motor homes, so obviously I couldn't get past it at all. The bike was overheating, the underseat exhausts were cooking me alive, which was actually kinda nice to dry me off a bit :smt043

THEN... the stupid Lix Toll petrol station was closed. It had 24 hour pumps but all the card slots had a bolt in them for some reason. So I carried on at an economical 50mph, but the bike died 3.5 miles away from Aberfeldy at 105 miles. Coasted it for a surprisingly long time. Must have been 500 yards at least (brakes must be in good order!). Then I pushed it up the hills, coasted down the hills and tried not to cause an accident for about 1.5 miles. Cars and bikes all passing me, not giving a ****. Then finally a nice couple offered to get me some petrol.

Oh and a bird or a bat flew in to my chest earlier as well and I screamed like a girl

Should have stayed in bed

Nights are getting shorter and with the weather being fair on sunday i thought i would do a long run.

If people want to come along can you say so, if not then i wont bother going to the start point. if people want to tag on along the route then make sure that you have enough fuel to get to the next petrol point as i'm not pizzarzzing around looking for fuel.

if you are coming along but only doing part of the route can you tell me where you will be departing on the route.

I'll meet you in Crieff if that's ok. That keeps my trips to a manageable 90 miles

About 10am? Have you set your alarm? :p

Run out of fuel? :P

i had an eventful Sunday with a ride to Newcastle on a new(to me) VFR, which promptly decided it didnt like charging its battery anymore! managed to get to Eyemouth before it cut out completely, then a couple of hours waiting on AA Recovery. got home at 11pm yay!

Jemma was surprisingly chipper about "her" bike breaking down :P

Unlucky! Have you found out what is wrong with it? Is this to replace the SV?

ouch! least you kept it upright! bet that got the heart rate going :P

VFR is for a bit of Touring action, the SV isnt the most comfortable 2 up, Jemma is getting pretty keen on getting out and about, and pretty much demanded that i get a touring bike :P it was meant to be used for winter also, but she is already getting precious about it!

Some tard fitted a chinese rec, so reckon its bit the dust, currently looking at replacement options. MOSFET upgrade looks to be the way to go. Battery looks chinese too, so thats getting replaced also.
