I think the DD16 is ugly. There was one for sale on E Bay recently which was only bid up to 35k. It didn't reach the reserve.

In this case white is faster!

For all the doubters - they sound special and are put together nice but the looks dont match but then again the sheer ability of the machine is awesome.

MARMITE I say!

If I wanted an ugly yet capable bike I would get a 'busa.

Don't see the point of ducatis in general TBH. Seems you pay a silly premium for less performance, less reliability and all you get is a brand "image" ... wait isn't that how h*rley make their money? :smt044

Yeah in terms of looks definatly. In terms of every day riding, definatly. In terms of pure "mine's bigger than yours" down at the pub, certainly..

I'm talking chicken strips btw..

Really? We paid less for our Duke than a new Gladius would cost................and I know which I prefer! :p

Ditto. I'd prefer your 996 over any SV anyday! Was even planning on shipping one out to Australia at one point until customs stuck their oar in.

I dont understand the fuss over ducati's. Admittedly that 848 looks great, but i bet it sounds like a clunky old Morris Minor. I saw a 996? on sunday and i thought it was great untill i heard it.

Trust me - bike + shipping is a lot less than buying one over here! I was looking at an SPS - 5-6k pounds and the insurance company here wanted to put a value of $30k on it! (the 14,000 pounds at the current rate:shock:) Not that you could even find one in Oz if you wanted to.

The mild hiccup was that I would have had to own it for at least 12 months before I could import it..........

One day, I'll get one!

Past one of these on the way back from Willingham last Sunday. there was no way i was mistaking the ugly headlights and that white stripe, let alone the sound.

Seen quite a few recently to, seems there must be more than 1500 about.

Who knows? Who cares! We like the bike, we're having fun on the bike. It's not about what it costs that matters to us, but how much fun it is. :-P

A fair point, but that doesn't make it good value...

Hell even I'd prefer a duke to a gladys, but that's more my prejudices against gladys than any recognition of the dukes "icon" status!

Surely you recognised it by the rear end as you were passing it? The dont all have white stripes and the sound is sweet!

I'd rather have an RC8-R. I really couldn't justify a DD16.

Scoobs I'd rather have you physique than my 848! You are the muscley dude arent you? God I hope your not 20 stone!

Admittedly that 848 looks great, but i bet it sounds like a clunky old Morris Minor.

Nope it sounds just like a CG - then you start it! Wet clutch amigo! Most SV owners like the way the two cylinders sound, respond etc the Duc is another variant really!

I would have to say having had both SV & Duc I wouldnt believe someone who loves their SV but wouldnt like a Ducati.

I was approached by a bloke the other who asked if I wanted he would let do a 10 min swap with his Falco - my response was 'Why?'.

I saw two of these in the flesh on the same day at the Wirral Egg Run a few weeks ago. They are truly amazing bikes, the pics dont do them justice.

The noise is incredible. Race reps dont get any better then this. Its probably more a 'road rep'.

They were riding next to me on the WER , blipping their throttles , then I gave them a "BLART" from an unbaffled Scorpion Street Extreme , they both looked around to see who dared have a louder pipe than them :smt077

Are most bikes good value?

If that was the main criteria we'd all be riding Gs500s or similar.

The thing is, this thread is about a fancy Ducati, that cost a fortune to buy and a lot of people, including myself, thought they would be kept in bank vaults and never ridden.

Not many other bike manufacturers have the b@lls to produce a such a bike.

They do look better in the flesh, the dashboard is a work of art, the clutch, brake adjusters look cool to IMHO. As does the way the exhausts exit up through the tail section.

There was one with the full race system on when we went to the Nurburgring not to long ago. Sounded awesome just on tick over.

The unlucky fella did one lap then got pulled for loud pipes. He'd come for the weekend to so then had to find something else to occupy himself with. (Not hard considering the roads around there)

They do sound brilliant and love the attention to detail (pipes coming up through tail).

Excellent behaviour!

Much like somebody with an airhorn drowning out an orchestra though :-)

I think the Desmo is a work of art from an engineering perspective. There isnt really anything like it. Of course it isnt value for money as a road bike but I doubt that would be the reason anybody would buy one, its a collectors item really, something really special.

If I had one it would be on the track as often as possible screaming for its life.

Look at this post on my other site. Guy is prepared to swap his pristine RC8 that cost around 17k for an 848 with extras.

Ducatis, they get under the skin.
