View Full Version : St Georges day today
Anyone else celebrating it?
We are at work, have England rugby or football shirts on or just wearing things that are red & white, office is draped in flags and banners .
Ive nicked Treacles england rugby shirt to wear :D
nope. im english and proud of the country i live in. just dont feel the need to shout it from the rooftops, take a day off and go out and get battered.
Wore my AGV St George into work this morning. Made a difference to my Arai. That's about the extent of it.
Hadn't even registered with me....
Yes! Large England flag at my desk and we have one flying on the flag pole above our building.
No i work with a bunch of forieners and we might upset someone!:smt102
Celebrating is a bit of an overstatement, but I will be marking the day by having a couple of pints of real English ale tonight.

This isn't aimed at you Ed but you were the first to mention not realising what day it is... it never ceases to amaze me how many English people don't know when St Georges Day is but come March 17 they are all wearing green and getting pi$$ed on Guiness

Gotta love St Patricks day, excuse for a **** up  I was in Portugal for it a few years ago and this year I was in Paris for it :D
arent the irish the only nation to celebrate their "saints" day?
Funny isn't it. Most of the population don't believe in 'saints' yet are happy to celebrate a 'saint's day'... go figure;)
Nope, most of us are Welsh (working in England, )

Dunno about that, but we get free silly hats and cheep beer in the pub on Australia Day too, so that definitely counts.
Didn't realise it was St. Georges day until I saw the Google homepage. Always seems to be a very low profile affair compared to other Saints days.
Found this on the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/saints/george_1.shtml). Don't know anyone who's going out to celebrate St. Georges day. Maybe we should?

Our canteen had a special menu for St Patrick's Day and was bedecked in flags. Not a thing today though for St George's Day. I asked the catering manager why and she shrugged and said "nobody bothers...".
Makes me so annoyed that people are appathetic about it in April but love it in March, when it's not even their own Saint's Day!! [/rant]
