anyone own one? i'm thinking of buying one in the countryside as a quiet retreat, good? bad points? this particular site is on the canal side in brewood in Staffordshire only 11 miles from my house but so quiet and peaceful ive fell in love with the place. we me/my dad have owned one in mid wales before and yes it was loverly but the drive every weekend puts you off so i was thinking a close one may be more practical. thoughts?

Why would I want a caravan with no fecking wheels?
Do you like dags?
Save your money and buy a motorcaravan with it instead. Then you can go where you like and you're not tied down to just one site.

save the money and spend it on nice hotels a couple of times a year instead of a depreciating asset that the wannabe pikey police will kick the door in, in a place you will get fed up of

I think if you really like a particular spot and your content with not moving around then they are a good idea.
There is a campsite in pitlochry, which like you say is pretty much in the most peaceful perfect location, if i didnt live so far away I would try and buy one.

I like the sound of this, will need a doggy hoover in your purchase then. Any swans nearby tho ??? Sam don't like them LOL
the price of them is stupid money.. site fees are ridiculous for what it is.. think of the cash you will be spending on it.. then think of all the short breaks you could have instead.. i love caravans... but statics are just big money pits... you are basically stuck on one site at the mercy of the site owner and depending on what the contract is like you might have to pay the site a % of the price if or when you sell on... site owners seem really nice till they have you trapped...
dont do it.. for the money, get a motorhome instead...

What a fab idea! I'd go for it, the idea of getting away from here every weekend is very appealing. You've made me think about it as there are log cabins on a lake not that far, I think I'll have a google.
Oooh I know the site Daz. When I was at BM at Pendeford I used to run up the canal path sometimes, up beyond the motorway. It's lovely around there, and the A5 although close is not busy cos everyone uses the motorway.
I think it looks terrific:p

Why buy a caravan 11 miles from home ? heres an idea, buy some deck chairs , drive 11 miles admire the view and then come home, there you go , just saved 20k, job done.

Well, if like me you don't have the best neighbours in the world, they seem to wake up at the weekends, then something like this would be perfect!

Fair point Lou, but 11 miles seems a bit close to home to me, hey but thats just me I suppose ;)

11 miles is a world away. Just think, 11 miles from here - well, that's Telford:rolleyes:
11 miles from me is the Cotswolds, I suppose it's all according where you live and what's on your doorstep.
I would consider it for quiet weekends, and if anything happened to the van in the week then I wouldn't have far to sort it out.
11 miles from me ,is 10 and ahalf miles out to sea

11 miles for me, wigan, liverpool, widnes , runcorn and st helens, beat that :) but seriously, not having a go, looked into a caravan in the scottish borders last year, just would prefer to get completely out my area for the weekend.
one prob you may have ,is that when the van gets to a certain age,they could be in their rights to ask you to remove it

Good idea I reckon M8, Brewood's got some good pubs!
Just be careful walking back along the cut, in the dark!

A friend of ours lived in a caravan on a site for years. Bit of an antisocial bugger at the best of times. Him and his Mrs finally decided that the neighbours on the site had got to be a pain in the ass, demolished both their vans and came back to civilisation...by buying a house. Its no different these days to bricks and mortar. The idylic life isn't so rosy anymore.
site fees are expensive too. I went down Devon over Easter, and the luxury vans they had down there were like little palaces. My parents would love to have one, and secretly I'd love to pack up and live in one by the sea, but my mate above has kind of put a stop on that idea!
This is Kwak we are talking about here.....
Caravan = Chrome
Chrome = Need to Polish
Need to Polish = Autosol
.....and now the reason for a caravan only 11 miles away is clear!
