View Full Version : S&WS Camping Banter
My only problem is the OH wants to take her big sleeping bag - the da*n thing is bigger than my tent when packed down....
Think I might have to pack the tent parts in seperate bike bags and squeeze the sleeping bag into the normal tent bag with the tent poles....

Or just wrap the sleeping bag up in a plastic bin bag and then bungee it onto the rest of the luggage...
Yeah thought about that too... will have to experiment and see what works best eh.
2 Days to go....
or
put your foot down and tell her she cant take it

the 2 problems are sortewd
swaped shifts on sunday from 7-3 to 3-10, whith a slight possibility of not have to going in at all
and boris is serviced (which i mostly did myself) and up for it

all we need now is the sun

I expect if you wave some sweets under Liz's nose she'll help you. She likes crispy M & M's best, but shes not particularly fussy when it comes to sweets...

Might be a bit late now...
If anybody is going along the A361 to get to the campsite. Last time I used that bit of road, it had a couple of speed camera's on it, so keep your eyes peeled.
Got in about 22.10, thanks to my breakdown cover...
I slid :(
before we got to tiverton! :smt093
Should post some pics up in a different thread of the damage... Hope you guys had a better day than me.

dan smashed his sv in big time at tiverton. I feel bad because i think it might of been my fault.
Sorry man, i feel bad. But i enjoyed the night before hovis is like a machine gun full of abuse. +1 to the hovis love.
Damn it was sh!t yesterday my back tyre was struggling to find grip in places. We all decided against the rideout in the end to save any accidents. Sorry to hear you came off Dan glad you made it home though.

this will be my non-drunk post now. (Got back 10pm last night and went straight into town and posted on the internet in the club)
Looking back going home probably wasn't the best idea but we thought it was.
After Dan's accident the M5 was a nightmare. Got to the services by Minehead and was seriously contemplating phoning my own recovery people to get me home. Luckily after my coffee and chocolate biscuits i managed to survive it home. Parts were just like lakes with standing water but bits of the M5 by Bristol were completely bone dry as was the M49 and M4 which was just mind boggling.
Sorry dan again, i think maybe looking back i should of realised.
The curse of Hovis continues . . . . . .
back home and bike washed.
Had to stop in a layby and watch you all ride away,I ran over a broken bottle and wanted to check my tyres.
Passed old Git about a miles into the M5.
I hate rain and
Avon storms are brill get some now
The sight of a tent full of grown adults cooking marsh mallows over a camp fire whilst being entertained by Hovis dulcet tones and smelly bum was a thing not to miss
Cheers Rich :crutches:
Dont worry about it TFA, it wasn't your fault I blame it on my inexperience... when we stopped second time I should've said I aint happy to carry on and I'll go to a B+B or something till the weather dies off or go in the morning...
Me SV doesn't look good anymore :smt022 engines ok though

sorry to hear about the slip dan, at least your sound that's the main thing, we ended up sitting in the pub until 9 after you left.
i had a reasonable ride home, after gid pulled over i waved goodbye, me and breadboy went off towards the M5 then we parted ways.
sun came out whilst i was on the M5, turned off at Cullompton again and took the twisty road back into Honiton, stopped there for some food (didn't realise Honiton was such a big place) and then shot back the way i came bridport, round Dorchester, wimborne, round the back of Poole ect. was going to take the road from west bay to Weymouth to do the coastal route and stop at Poole quay but was absolutely freezing so carried on home
thanks for a quality weekend, was still a real good laugh even though the ride didn't happen, im going to jump in the bath as im shivering then suppose i better unpack :(
camping weekend back in vengeance?
well that was fun, lol
i had a great time concidering the weather, the ride there and back was sunny, the day of the rideout, i dont think i have ever seen so much rain...... so a day in the pub was the plan.
gutted to hear about your off dan, i hope your ok.
looking forward to the brecon/ryader camping trip next month now........
ahhhhhhhhhh, thats better.
had a bath, washed boris, unpacked, hung the tent up in the garage to dry, had food.
tryed to get photos off my phone, but its playing up, nevermind, fizz the cameraman was there.
friday the weather was great, we got to the campsite about 4pm, and it was so hot, i was just in shorts erecting my tent, beer and a BBQ were the way forwad.
saturday, it hammered down all day, we went to the start point but decided it was just too wet, so went to the pub.
sunday, started off a bit cloudy, but brighten up around 10am
had a good time, even though we did not do the ride
thanks.......
rich for the lend of the waterproofs
diamond for the taxi-ing and BBQ (and fixing my bike;))

Sorry to hear about your off Dan, hope its a hassle free getting the bike going again and glad you are in one piece.
Had an ace weekend despite the weather, the banter and company more than made up for the fact it lashed it down for most of the weekend.
Pics sorted and uploaded, thread here

Home safe and sound since about 3:30pm... Everything sorted, showered and now chilling.... Had a good ride back with a stop off at Fizz and Diamonds place.. Thanks for the bacon sandwiches, lift etc guys. Mucho appreciated.
Nice to meet everyone - Me and Mrs T enjoyed ourselves and although the weather was far from ideal, still a top weekend.
Sorry to hear about your off Dan - glad you're ok - the bike can always be fixed.
On to the next one. :D

Should we look at dates for a return to N.Devon?
There's a couple of things already in the calendar, so perhaps sometime after the AR?

Are we going to the same site?
It's cheap and cheerful and I reckon if the weather is fine, then the walk to the pub will be ok.
What does everyone think?
Are we going to the same site?
good point.
its cheap, and the owner was fun:smt045 toilets were ok
i know the pub was a bit of a trek, and a bit crap......, BUT IF we dont get rain, i dont think we need a pub.
BUT what ever is decided, i think it needs booking soon,

Just to chuck something else into the mix if I may.
When Liz and I were looking for alternative accomodation for the AR last year we thought about scraping the whole lot and changing the rideout route to take in Porlock Hill
We found this place and its just popped back into my mind again...
http://www.porlockcaravanpark.co.uk/booking_form.htm
Its a bit bigger than where we stayed last weekend, but they also look geared up for bikers and they have a rally field which we might be able to use so we can all pitch into together and not worry aboust noise disturbing the other people using the park.
Its also if I have understand Rich's route correctly pretty much on his route so we could start and finish there if he is amenable to doing that....
As said I'm happy to go back Chievnor again, just thought I'd throw the idea open...

...
that did not worry me at all;)
i dont think it caused the owner too much concern either:p
i will go where-ever, but think it needs booking ASAP if its to be on a bank holibob. and what about the traffic if it is to be on the bank holibob?

Looks like quite a nice spot and a change might be nice. I'm happy to do either as I thought the campsite in Chivenor was adequate.
I guess it depends on numbers a bit really - rally field might be useful if the number increases past a dozen.
