Just had a nosey on parkers to see how much I'd get for my car if I need to sell it in the next few weeks and got a bit of a shock. I know parkers can be way off with their valuations so what do you guys think it is worth
It's a 5 door 2002 vw golf 1.4E, 55000 miles.

£2.5k. ?
I bought an 8 year old car 18 months ago, it's now worth half what I paid for it. Prices have crashed massively. :(
£2k - if that for a private sale
less for a trade in value

Similar spec on Autotrader for £2,750.

£2800 ish?
I have a 2002 black vw golf 's' at under 40k and I paid just a bit more than that for it (with an almost full tank....the beauty of taking them by surprise with cash lol). It really was mint though.

Cause you bought it from a dealer. Mine was private and a year later.

Same boat with me. My focus I paid £5.4 in october 07. Now it's worth £3k (maybe less :( )
When fuel prices went up massively, s/h car prices just plummeted. After that, the recession got its grasp and they never recovered.
On the bright side you could have bought new, and lost £10k in that time ;)

I know the recessions kicked in since I bought mine I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not getting any return on it lol.

Just keep it running. No point in buying anything new at all.
I wanted a 190E Merc. I wish I'd bought one in the end.

I wasn't thinking of getting a new one. I'm just thinking of ways to raise some dosh for when I go on the dole again
What do you do for a job anyway?

I've had the same thought, when I lose my job I'm gonna be stuck with this car that's worth something to me but I won't get F all for.

Do you work for yourself? I know a few people who've started independently recently, and getting loads of private work. Well worth considering if other stuff is drying up.

I'm self employed but I work for a company. Takes a lot of dosh to set up your own company, plus it would just be house work, which I'm not keen on

I don't think they were even doing that. It was pretty much getting yourself in the yellow pages. But yeah, mostly house work. I'd almost do it for free if I was being given cups of tea all day!

I know loads of people that are just going week to week:(

Car prices have taken a tumble, it's a buyers market so unfortunately it's best sticking with whatever car you have now till it dies.

go to a dealer and see was glasses value it at trade prices, bit more if you haggle or abit more than that if you sell privately, my mota has lost so much i cant justify selling it.
