Just because I occasionally have been known to ride a bike, why do people assume my broken leg is a result of a bike related incident.

Twice today people have asked me if I have come off my bike. No I fell into a hole in the road whilst walking home last Friday. No I was not ****ed, it was good Friday and early doors and we only went out at 9:30 etc.

The assumptions people make are starting to seriously p me off

Heh - I get it all the time Tim. People see me walking round the stables with either a leg brace and stick or on crutches and always ask if it was a horse related injury.

I tend to rattle off the reply - Nah, motorbikes 20 years ago. The broken elbow was the horse!

It's not the assumption that bothers you, its having to explain that you fell over in a pothole ;)

I shouldn't take the mickey, I completely understand. I get similarly annoyed at just having to explain the same thing over and over again to various people.

I dont think its a silly asumption. Bikers often injure themselves, and a broken leg is quite common. Its hardly an assumption that would annoy me.

Everyone assumed mine was from the bike... Even when I was checked in at casualty they didn't ask what happened, they just said "skiing, climbing or biking?". To be fair it's a pretty reasonable assumption, but it's still annoying.

I missed about your leg by the way, sorry to hear it- hope it heals up well and fast.

Its the way our brain works, I got a answer mc message last week telling me a friend had died, young healthy fit guy, initial disbelief was followed by my (wrong) assumption he'd had an accident on the bike (was natural causes) but my brain would not let me associate any other cause as a bike accident was the most likely. Sorry.

As Richie says.
They're really inquiring about the welfare of the bike - you're only the messenger!

My next doors neighbours were v ery worried about me when an ambulance had to come get me at silly oclock in the morning and i was taken out o it on the stretcher.

One still asked if i'd crashed my bike and was that why the ambulance came to get me? Like i'd crashed my bike while i was in bed asleep, lol.

Laughter is the best medicine of course so that helped me no end.

Tim, hope the leg heals soon...........

....and the bike aint too badly damaged ;)

People always assume my FUBAR'd wrist is a result of biking. It was actually gymnastics in school. Shame we don't see many "PE more dangerous than speeding" headlines. ;)

yup the fibula is bust so now wearing a fetching blue number from toe to knee with 2 more weeks to go and then they will fit a pneumatic brace. Visits to the fracture clinic have been an experience as I get whisked through back doors to avoid queues courtesy of the wife who works on that clinic and knows I will complain if I have to wait. Doctors and staff who explain nothing assuming Lynne will understand and explain.

Still what the heck, a hospital sick note saying do not work for 6 weeks, everyone telling me to elevate the leg, and lynne/michelle bringing me brews/food at regular intervals.

Jasper is as P'd off with it as me. Nobody to take him for his early morning dump so he has to sit by the door and whine until one of them gets the message
