...but not what you're thinking you dirty gits! :batman:

I'm doing a bit of coursework about screw spliced concrete piles, and can't bloody think of the word for the hole where the "male" screw bit screws into...so to speak (hard to explain as I don't know the bloody word!!!!:))

Basically the piles come in prefabricated sections, with a male and female end, which are then screwed together. I can't really use the male and female terms - lecturer seems to dislike it! (Ghey?)

The prefab piles are known as male and female connectors why does your lecturer have a problem with that?

No idea, I just remember him saying to a chap that there are better terms to use. (Which I've since forgot!)

There will be massive loadings on the piles, so a bit of plastic wouldn't really cut it...! :geek:

I might use "threaded hole"

Cheers for all the suggestions *numbers*!

I would suggest tapped section. As tapping is the process of cutting an internal (female) thread.

Haha I thought this might be a thread asking for alternative expletives for someone who'd annoyed you :-P

As it is, seems to be a little more technical than that. Daft question but what's all this about males and female threads?

for example:- male threads are bolts etc and female threads are nuts

internal screws are female, external screws are male.

What you need is :
(AS seen on NW% ) it wont do your coursework any good, but should ease your discomfort.
