You can do a very nice circuit of the Lakes taking in all the passes. To be honest, as spectacular as the roads are, they're not the best biking roads, though I've only ever driven them. Easy enough trip to make in a weekend.

To get the best views in the Lakes or any other mountain area you have to be on foot and up a mountain.

Indeed my thoughts exactly, was with my brothers this time, but one has a DRZ, we thought we could stick them both in a van for the trip up there, base ourselves at Wasdale and play from there.

b&b's or hostels are nuff cheap up there.. could make a bit of a weekend of it maybe? head up on the friday, arrive and proceed directly to restaurant/pub... next day, get up and go for a good long play in the valleys. Evening = arrive back at diggs and then head back to the pub. Sunday, bit of a sleep in, find some interesting roads for the way home and then set off back down to the london :)

Nah the struggle is coming out of ambleside and it's the kirkstone pass IIRC

Nope on an SV with higher gearing for really hard work;)

Roads ooop norf are much fun, if a little scary:o

For myself and Orose it was a nightmare:(. Much much worse than the others(they didn;t have the probs we had) I'm pretty sure i've been up there on Suzy, much better geared, in fact I've been on silly roads worse than that on her up there...those that we were chatting about last night in fact....hmmm fancy a go up there when its a bit warmer and do a bit of a re-run? Just to get some practise in?

I'd like to tackle the route that we did on the Hardy bikers on her just to take note of the difference between the gearing.

speaking of low gearing, I need to mess with the gearing on my 1000 YC... will pm you later asking for info :) it's geared too high at the mo, 1st and 2nd gear for town riding, etc... I really don't think I need a 160mph top speed to be honest, prolly end up in prison with bigger boys

me and you get on just fine YC, you just need to learn to use a little less lubricant. No need for that copper slip malarky, just use aqueous cream and get the job done

just need a bit of getting used to. Remember Matt needed a bit of time adjusting when he bought the Raptor

Why... a push bike has no engine, and you don't look cool eating bacon butties from ratburger vans... :smt080

My God we got wet... but it was fun.
Amarko had to push a Triumph up part of Hardknot if I recall.

Looks nice for the view, cant imagine riding it is much fun, normally on those types of roads its degrading at the edges and in the middle with gravel everywhere.

There not that bad tbh, unless you have some nob that stalls in front of you making you stall trying not to drop the bike oh and don't forget your battery is flat and you have to push it up and round t bump it on the way down. But they are fun if the weathers decent. And living 5 miles away from them work nicely. :D

I suppose if you have tackled those sort of roads and not come to any harm it makes you look like some sort of hardcore nutter:smt080

Hey, I've enjoyed riding on this one a couple of times, although last time was taxing, but still much fun......must be a hardcore nutter then:p

In places, but to actually make reasonable progress on such roads requires far more concentration than on some sweeping A road. Making it far more rewarding even if you are mostly in the first 3 gears. The gravel is just something else to think about, you get used to it kicking about a bit after a while.

Ive done it, not a great day to do it as there were a million push rod riders there too. Sigh. Got in the way on every damn turn :(

Some amazing views its true. Extremely steep and narrow and winding.

You is so wrong, you just need to see the smile on the faces of anyone who has just done Wrynose and Hardknott. Although the smile might be relief to have survived or possibly embarrassment about the offensive odour leaking out of their pants.

One tip, have decent brakes and do not touch your front disk to see just how hot it got (ouch, burny burny).

Come on though chaps, who has the video of Hovis popping on the way up
