View Full Version : Should I fit a dyno kit?

Hi Ive just joined this site, although I have looked at the posts on here many times for various things and always found it great for all things sv. However Ive not been able to find anything here (or anywhere else) as to how much effect a dyno kit will have on a sv650. I have a 99 fully faired sv650 with k&n filter and carbon can co. can, (which sounds awsome although not entirely legal the mot man tells me). I have a dyno guy local to me who reckons a dyno kit could get me 5-8bhp from the bike. If anyone has done this to their bike I could do with some advise before splashing out.

Cheers ;)

He's talking $hit.

Any minimal gains you MAY get from a slip on pipe will not be helped by a dynojet kit. The K+N filter is no different to standard.

I don't like the dynojet kits, the needles wear your emulsion tubes out oval and you can get the same effect with £5 worth of mikuni parts!

ok thanks for that, anything else you would say was worth doing to it performance wise or just leave alone?

Leave it alone. Or maybe the pointy cam swap if you must. But playing with the SV for power is a daft idea.

5-8bhp is not easy nor cheap no matter what a guy trying to sell you something says.

What about 4bhp?

lol cam swop will get you 4 ish, but it's not something a beginner should attempt to do ... even i havent dont mine yet ... maybe in a month or three ..

If you've fitted an aftermarket air filter and exhaust a dynojet may improve smoothness, economy, general running, and perhaps 1 or 2bhp gain at best.

yeh thats what the guy said but went over the top on hp it seems - quoted me 150 for rolling road - carb clean and balance and the kit. fair price would you say, with the gains im gonna get not sure its worth it?

No it's mental to get a fivers worth of main jets put in.

A slip on can doesn't gain much because of the standard downpipes.

yeh nuff said i think - the bike came to me as is with can and filter but read somewhere that if that had been done the jet kit was a good compliment. but 150 for maybe 1-2 hp hardly seems worth it.

ok thanks for the advise on that guys - on another subject i read everywhere that the stock suspension is poor on the sv, but as this is my first proper bike its hard for me to comment. I would imagine that the riders weight has a lot to do with how the suspension behaves in corners - i am 6 2" and about 15 stone, the bike is a day off thing used for blasting around relativley short distances - in your opinions should i look to upgrade to gsxr and what sort of costings would be involved.
