View Full Version : What size is your helmet?

As in the one you put on your head when you ride a motorcycle (dirty minded fools!)

Just bought a new Shoei helmet in Small! My first lid was an AGV Stealth Medium, but after that broke in it was far too loose. Next up was a medium/small AGV Ti-Tech which was pretty good for about a year before getting too loose again. Switching to a brand that didn't do half sizes, I now have a Small and the fit is snug but great!

So it seems I have a girls sized head and that got me wondering what size was everyone else using? Not that it matters of course, right? ;)

I've got a big head, size 62, or extra large

I have a Shoei too, XXS. They seem to be the only manufacturer to make a helmet that fits me properly.

Pete also has a Shoei in a small, Luke.

It may just be that we all have 'odd' heads, Luke! ;)

Shoei sizes are all odd 51-53 etc. I believe most other helmet manufacturers use even sizes 56-58 etc.

Well make sure - you don't want any nasty surprises :p

I've always been a medium - but I bought my old AGV nice and snug so the lining would give... it didn't give an inch and so its always been a little on the tight side. My Roof Boxer V is also a medium, but its a much looser medium than the AGV.

My shoei is a medium, but its got fairly loose over a year period...I think i'll try a small next time, although some new cheek pads are in the post so hope they work :S

Erm I was under the impression different manufacturers defined 'small' , 'medium', 'larg' etc. differently. I'm a 56cm IIRC - Is that a medium on your scale?

I'd guess most people will be a medium, is the reason it's called a medium because it's what the manufactures think is the most common size?

im a medium in the shoei now thats damaged sice the off im now looking for a replacement lid ,i think im now going for an agv ,it feels alot more cumfy than the shoei and more of a snug fit....

Doesn't really matter - just curious to see ballpark

large for me with my AGV Stealth and Airoh flip. Also large for my Caberg but my original FM was a medium but very tight. The large FM felt a bit loose.

Its more a manufactures head, i had a AGV k series small which got loose in less than a year + i fell off so i tried on some different AGV's and another K series but in XS but they were still loose, all shoies and none of them fitted XS and Small were too tight at the top of the lid and then medium was too big at the top of the lid, plonked on an Arai Condor in XS and it fitted great as do all of the XS Arais i have also tried

went to the bike show in 2007 after using an XL sized helmet for 9 months(can't remember their name but it had an integral flip down sun visor thingy), visited the Arai stand and they measured me up as a Large...

Different brands have different sizes I think. But you want to measure your head before buying a lid...

prolly would have made sense, the lady in the bike shop (where I bought the original oversized lid) more or less said "if it feels comfy then it's probably the right size". Think she was just covering for the main shop fella while he was out the back playing with himself or something... I was new to biking and totally clueless so stupidly went along with it

XS.......and no its not because theres not much in there:rolleyes:

Although, the exact same helmet it replaced was a small. It all goes on the inserts I think.

I'm a medium 58cm (must be all my brains  lol). Just got a new lid.. Arai condor. Fits like a glove, better that the AGV Stealth I went in with he intention of buying and better than the shoei I tried on.

Yep I made the same mistake with my first lid (although it wasn't that bad) new to biking and with the shop assistant say 'yeah that one fits perfectly' I was like yeah alright then. If you search youtube arai distributors have a video guide on getting a proper fitting lid. Bit noddy but helpful.

I always get a helmet that is tight, but not enough to give me a headache. I get someone to hold the helmet on my head, and I try and move the noggin inside. There shouldn't be any movement, and most importantly it shouldn't feel like it is pressing hard on your forehead, or anywhere else for that matter.
My previous shark helmet was a small as I said, but after while started getting loose fitted. I fell off and cracked my head on the floor so it needed replacing(gave me the excuse to be fair) This one is much tighter, but as time goes on the inserts get 'flat'. I could replace them, but usually they are pretty pricey

IMO helmet fitting is really important, I've been told that if I had have been wearing an ill fitting helmet when I crashed I would have a snapped neck right now (alive or not I'm not right sure). Luckily enough I binned my illfitting saggy ass £30 lid for a really nice fit beemer lid 3 days before I crashed.

(sorry if I've derailed slightly I'll shoosh now :silent: )

Always been a Medium.
HJC AC-12 currently . AGV and Bieffe prior.

Was right between sizes... M vs. L.. on the HJC.
Glad I went with the tighter one.
Landed headfirst during a highside.
Saved my life so I got another one just like it.

Im a small. Went from a medium Arai condor to a small chaser. Didnt relise how big my condor was on my till my bought my chaser last weekend.

Tried on both the shoe xr1000, raid 2 and agv steath in med and small but nothing comes close to the comfort of an Arai to me.
