Anyone know, around Edinburgh/Lothians, where I can get hold of those plastic rivets that hold the lower fairings together ? Some websites seem to stock similar to what I need but they sell in a minimum of 100 and I'm only looking for half a dozen. Alternatively, anyone know of a nuts and bolts stockist around the Lothian areas ?

Not sure if this is what you mean and it's on e-bay but just in case.

I know the ones you mean......

http://www.tfc.eu.com/flipbooks/panel-fasteners.php

We looked at these guys in our work but as you mentioned, typically you can only buy in 1,000s

Try given them a call and see if they would send you a few as a courtesy. Justin Lawrence is the chappy.

On the other hand....... cable ties are your friend!

Keep the hinge plate and just get a heavy duty tie from your local DIY or sparky supplier.

Cheers

Or just stick a small bolt through with a nyloc nut.

Plastic numberplate nuts and bolts will do the trick

Thanks everyone for your ideas ec - I did think about the number plate nuts and bolts as a possibility. I can't really be bothered ordering something and having to wait days for it to arrive - would rather just nip it in the bud and go out and buy the bleeding thing - I just don't have the patience !

Whats the price by the 100?

Suzuki charge stupid money for them individually.....

Might be worth getting a load and then reselling them here......

I think they were over £1 each from Suzuki - £1.50 rings bells.

If you can get them for 6p each, then doing them @ £2 for 10 inc postage would be a VERY fair (and still profitable) rate, I am fairly sure that most people on here would pay that rate.

£1 !! I know plastic parts on the SV are expensive but.....jings ! Cable ties sounds like a nice cheap option....

I was also thinking about using some rivets to fix my fender extender rather than the screws but wouldn't know where to start....:-k

Pop into halfwits. They do a reasonable selection of press fasteners / push rivets in black. I'm sure you'll find a pack of 6 or so that will fit and do the job. Just take an old one with you or measure them first.

BTW. Use one of the Sikaflex sealants designed for automotive of boat (marine) use to bond your fenda extenda on. No screws here and it's been on for a few years without a prob.

Rivets i fear would split the plastic, glue or screws (mines screwed)

Info much appreciated - I've never heard them called "halfwits" before but I understand why :smt005- will go in tomorrow and see what they have.

Even plastic rivets ? There are two holes in both the fender and the extender which line up - I thought this might be for fixing them together with the likes of plastic rivets or similar ?? :-k

No, I thought you were talking about metal pop rivets, the plastic clips aren't really rivets, sorry for the confusion:-s. Folk go on about the screws spoiling the look of it but the holes are there anyway and i stopped noticing the screws after about 20 minutes.

Glued my extender on with epoxy. Been on for 5 years now. I took the precaution of roughing up the mating surfaces with coarse sandpaper though. Didn't fancy the points of the screws anywhere near my tyres.

My fender doesn't have any holes in it though. The screws were self-tappers.

Rivets, glue, screws, rivets, glue, screws.....im.confused.com  Another thread I read about fixing the extender included an awful lot of different types of glue people had used.

Although I don't really fancy drilling 3 holes for the self-tapping screws, I think I'll just bite the bullet and go that way as I don't want to take any chances of it coming off and getting stuck and melted somewhere else on the bike....;)

Thouht it had holes already??, just use them for self tapers, if you dont have any the right size i've a selection in the garage.

I should probably start a new thread for this, but anyhow....

I've taken the liberty of photographing the fender and the extender to show what my "problem" is - the holes in the extender are larger than the fender and, although Pyramid supplied me with 4 self-tapping screws, it seems I have to drill four holes- which I ain't too keen on !! Hope this shows the pics as it's the first time I've used photobucket.....

Must be the new ones..

Drill a hole each side, and two on the 'top' bit, slightly smaller than you;re self tappers..
I have 4 self tappers holding mine on, has worked fine through worst weather imaginable..
Will get a photo for you mate.

hi Steven, are the holes in the mudguard for brake pipe clips?

the only thing i can think of why the holes are bigger in the crap flap is so as they can accept 'well nuts'. could you measure the holes in the mudguard and crap flap and get back to me... i might have what you are looking for...

Bibio, no, the brake pipes aren't connected to fender (see undernoted photo). The holes in the fender are 6mm in diameter and the extender is 10mm.

Much appreciated ! As KG suggests, I'm happy to stick a pre-paid envelope in the post to you along with a "beer voucher" ! I'm currently trying to work out this PM thing on the forum - apparently no-one can send me a PM......
