Git. Some fella did the same to me once when i went to buy a car. Sat in rush hour traffic for bloody ages and when i was just round the corner but couldn't find his road i called to ask directions only to have the response you had.
Some people eh?
But i believe in karma so hopefully whoever he took a deposit off will have paid with forged notes and wont come back again, lol.

Somebody post a link to the ebay item. I'm curious to know if I recognise the bike. Even if it's not a .org member, you tend to notice other SV's so someone in SV Ecosse is bound to have seen the bike regularly. I know of several around Edinburgh and Glasgow, and while they are not .org members and I don't know the riders, I know the bikes and where the riders tend to ride and park.

It's silly when people do that.. I always right the night before and just before I leave when picking up the bike to be sure.. :|
Enter his mobile phone number into loads of 'free' online services such as games and pr0n... He will be charged for every text he gets from them untill he cancells them. Hopefully this should cover the £35 losses to yourself.

Ah mate, gutted for you. It would be good to have to a link so we can all email him, at least that way he may get the message!
A good point to make though and one that I have always stuck by is that if you're going to buy a vehicle.......make sure it's from a showroom or you can go and view it at the current owners house. If they're not happy to let you see it at their property, it's usually because they don't want you to know where they live and that rings alarm bells with me. It may be that you asked this guy to meet elsewhere for convenience, but still, I'd always avoid doing that.
Nothing you can do re the tickets....apart from maybe buy another and take Mrs. Biggles up for a little day trip!!!

Ah, not always true. If I was selling one of my bikes privately I wouldn't want someone to come to my house, because of our other bikes, just in case they were a nice burglar just wanting to come round to check out what else I'd got.

I see your point, but I wouldn't have anything valuable on view and I wouldn't have them in the house. I've walked away from purchases a number of times because my ex got very badly burned buying a vehicle after looking at it and having a quick drive in a motorway services. Later cost him over £2k to sort all the problems with it.
Like I said, many people have good reasons not to want strangers at their house, but it just raises a red flag with me.

Sorry, but I would insist on buying from your house, helps to tie the V5 and bike to the address, gives me a bit of a clue as to how you may have looked after it etc.
Ebay link is this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=150341440652&Category=9808&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1) (i think)

Sorry to play devils advocate here but, had you actually agreed to buy it?? had you paid a deposit?? had you made firm arangements?? looking at it from the sellers point he has someone saying he'll nip up at the weekend to have a look?? then gets a call from someone else who puts down a deposit?? what would you do.
I'm not saying this is what happened just that we are all venting against someone we dont know, he may have been burned by others not turning up etc..
Sorry
The bike's gone, there will be others available. I'm sorry to hear this but it's hardly the only SV out there.
Let's not act like a bunch of 7 year olds on the ebay auction eh?

Point understood but nevertheless lots of people do naughty stuff on ebay cos they think they'll get away with it, and complaints don't seem to get taken very seriously. So there should be some sort of repercussion here - official or unofficial. Or both.

I have to agree, I've been let down by buyers before. First to place the cash in my hand or a deposit wins.
Did you you actually win the auction on Ebay? If so then its out of order and I would complain. If not then you didnt really buy anything.
Edit *** Just noticed its a classified add, not an auction. No different to an add in the paper then.

True, having the link and actually emailing him would depend on how this happened. If Davepreston won the auction and this happened, then I would probably not send anything myself as I don't know davepreston other than through the forum, but if it happened to Dan or any of the orgers I do know, I would possibly email to say that while it has nothing to do with me, I would suggest the seller honor his arrangements with the buyer so as not to lower his/her feedback rating and that getting him/herself known to be unreliable in the SV community, it may be harder for him/her to sell in the future.
I wouldn't send petty emails......just something polite and to the point to remind that breaking agreements is not a good way to conduct a sale.
If however, there was no such ebay win and it was a case of going up with the cash and buying the bike if he liked it, theres not much that can be done or should be done here as a seller is always going to go for the safe option and that is cash in hand.
I still though stand firm on not viewing anywhere other than the home or business of the seller. As for having strangers at your house, like I said in the other post, don't take them inside and don;t have valuable bikes/cars/belongings on show. I also always tell people to bring photo ID with them if the are buying anything from me. People always ask why and I just say that I want to know that I am giving the DVLA the correct information. Actually, I just want to know that they are who they say they are!
