I think there are pattern parts on ebay, dont know of the quality though
if you do a search, you can replace it with a honda one, which is better
OE suzuki is about £90, and can be got drom your dealer,
2nd hand ones from ebay or breakers, but i wouldnt bother
Yorkie chris has a honda one
ok, i will have a look.
otherwise i am looking at £75 from WEMOTO (usually the cheapest i think)

honda cbr rr -> ebay - > £30-£50 better than an sv one.
I've got a new tormax sv one on mine that was £55 does the job ( I think anyway!) but the chargeing is still resonably poor.
do the honda ones require wiring changes?

im not sure, if so, nothing major, PM yorkie chris:thumleft:

yeah they do, very straight forward all you'll need is a soldering iron. You'll get any help on her should you need it.
cool.
is ebay my best bet?
so, i imagine there are lots of different types... how about this one?

I was looking at the cbr600rr's and looking at that pic it looks fine (you'll have to remove that bracket I think though). Not sure about the blade one as I can't see the wiring. What you need is three yellows (outputs) and 2 or 4 postive/negative wires.
To fit to the sv you'll need to swap the plugs and if you get one with 4 power cables (i.e 2x red and 2 x black wires) you just need to pair up the matching colours to make 1 red wire and 1 black wire.
If that makes sense.
thanks for that.
i think i will buy the 03 CBR one then.... i may just give it til tomorrow to see if Yorkie Chris comes by here and confirms that any year CBR ones will work (ie not just 94-99 etc).
cheers, potentially saved me £30.

I got a genuine replacment part from suzuki spares direct. I've encountered no problems with 18,000 miles of this one, bike used every day in all weathers for all sorts of riding.
Else, try Wemoto. they do good parts at good prices and are very prompt.

aye, probably make do with a genuine one. I went for a sv (japanese aftermarket) one as it was reasonably cheap, guaranteed to fit and I needed it right then.
There are conflicting points of view about the gen. SV ones though. All I know is mine lasted 7k.
I will go with Honda, because i replaced my SV one with another SV one which only gave me 3 years! (albeit a used one)
this looks like the one for me-

£23
can anybody confirm it will fit ok?
thanks

Either will work, I have a 'blade one in my curvy, physically it is a bit bigger but the screw holes are in the right place and it fits. The wiring is 3*yellow wires (connect to the three yellow alternator phases on SV), 2*Red (Both positive, wire both to red on SV) and 2*Green (Both ground, wire to black on SV). Cables are pretty heavy duty and bending them to fit can be a challenge but it is possible. I bought mine because it was cheap, like this one.
Any 12V reg/rec from any recent (as in the last 15 years) 600cc+ bike will work fine, might be a bit of work to fit if the holes are a different spacing though.

I heard a suggestion about using one from a Honda 4 stroke 250 a while back on a different forum , may have been a CB250 of sorts . They are apparently "Bomb" proof . Might be worth doing a bit more research on this if I get some spare time to myself over the next week .
i am a bit gutted that you think the blade one will work! as i have just spent £45 on a 600 RR one.
I went for that because i know for a fact it works ok.... now slightly tempted to buy the cheap one and sell the £45 one on.

but that makes 7 wires... the one in the pic looks to have 5

The green ones are hiding, you can see one poking out on the right.

Ok, i have purchased a CBR 600 RR 2003 Reg/rec for £45 AND i have purchased a fireblade reg/rec for £1.
As i am certain the 600 RR one will work, I will compare the wiring etc etc and have a bit of an investigation. I will perhaps write all the info down so it can be made available on this site.
Then i will sell on the spare!
Should be interesting.... as well as useful to a lot of SVers with low cashflow!
thanks all.

Reg/Rec on my Honda Yawnadero was a Ducati branded one ?
That ended up making a whistling noise and smelt of Fish ...... I kid you not .
my 2 regrecs have arrived, 1 CBR RR and 1 FireBlade.
they appear to be about the same size and have identical wiring.
I am going to fit the fireblade one and re-sell the CBR one (it cost 35 quid).
1 plug has 3 yellow wires and 1 plug has 2 red / 2 green.
Can anybody quickly explain the fastening procedure? (again!)
Cheers

Just have a guess what's the worst that could ... oh yeah!
OK. Yellow wires connect directly as the yellow wires on your OEM reg reg. Chop the little 6" stub of yellows off so you can replace the connector and plug it straight into the wire coming up from tha generator.
Other lot, get some big spade connectors and ring terminals, the reds go to the battery live, the greens to earth. Ignore the OEM connections they're $hite small bore cable.
ahh, so you recommend connecting directly to the battery/earth rather than using the wiring, ok.
I was thinking i would cut the wiring off my SV650 reg/rec and solder the honda one straight to it... thus enabling easy re-fitment. would there be any problems with that?

Nope will work fine
My Curvy Regulator is knackered. Should I buy a CBR one then?

Most recommend it, I used a japanese aftermarket one on mine and it lasted atleast a few months (sold the bike) but if I could ahve got one I would ahve gone for the CBR one.
Northwind recently did a thread on reg/rec longitivity IIRC
I would say so for the price difference.
My reg/rec performance with the fireblade one has been fairly poor.
I wouldn't say it is chargin properly and i have resorted to buying a charger and always having a charged battery at home on standby.
Can you post a link? Can't find it...
