Following on from the discussion me and YC have been having in my previous thread:

Tonight me and my Dad got the engine out of the FZR400 and started stripping it down

Here is the initial problem that we found as to why the bike wouldnt run as it looked like a com rod had tried to make a run for it

Then we took the cams off to find (top left: valve bucket bottom left: broken in half shim bottom right: collet (correct spelling?) top right: broken engine casing from first picture (which we found yesterday)

Then off comes the head to find

Next the cyclinders, along with the big end of the piston in shot

A shot of the piston

Scored crank (doesnt show up too well in the picture)

So looks like piston number 3 let go, caps have come off, nuts have come of the bolts (i think thats what my dad said i might be wrong i cant remember) piston has got stuck and stopped in the cyclinder big ends come back round smacked it one and then thats how all the other damage has happened :(

So now i need a new engine think i will find another 400 engine as im looking at about £100 plus i might know where there is one :p and a 600 could become expensive

Or i could break the bike prob break even or just under but its got new super stickies on it so they should fecth £200 or less alone

Decided now its not worth putting a new lump in it and to break it, made a list of the parts and priced it up what i would like to sell them for and it totals to about £1200 so realisticly im prob looking around the £600 - £800 mark now to start listing on ebay :(

:( oh well once i break it and sell it, its time for another project

Still need to do some more engine stripping, god knows what made that hole perhaps a flying bolt or nut as we havent found the other bolt or any of the nuts yet =\

Big end cap bouncing around? They'll probably be down in the sump somewhere.

You posted a picture of a scored big end. Probably not economical.
