View Full Version : Paypal phising email
Just to let you know that I received a phising email from someone purporting to be paypal this morning, basically asking me to update my accounts within 24hrs or they will invalidate my account, the spelling and grammar where appalling, even worse than mine  I was going to cut and paste it into here as a warning but there was a link on it and I didnt want to spread anything onto here or via the forum, just be careful.

My Ebay account was hi-jacked over the weekend. The interloper signed up for all sorts of business things costing mucho money, then put up some listings. However, Ebay spotted it and cancelled it all! I've reset my passwords and all is good.

Haha, you believe that?
Sorry for being so snappy, but how can PayPal (or any site for that matter) block mail being sent from any mail server, or compromised home PC that has been set up by spyware to send out these mails.
Just delete the thing and forget about it.
If your mail client has a "mark as spam" do that as well, but thats not really going to do much either.
i dunno, but i havent recieved anymore fake one about paypal so it seemed to work for me

All PayPal can do is investigate where it was sent from and then act to have that IP address blocked from sending mail.
There is nothing they can do to stop a mail server sending mail to another mail server that they dont control.
You have just gotten lucky with this one.
SPAM is almost unstoppable, the best you can do is filter it to a manageable level.

I get plenty of "phishing" and "spam" emails from supposed banks, the ironic thing is I'm not with any of them :D
Chompy there is no way of spotting it, that button just alerts PayPal of the matter, just look out for spelling, who its from, the URL you are clicking, cos it'll be a sub-domain with paypal in it to make it look so.
