View Full Version : electric motorbike reaches speed
Video (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8046921.stm)
Neal Saiki, inventor of the Zero S Supermoto, demonstrates the technology behind the machine.
The electric motorbike can go from 0-60mph in around five seconds, and can be recharged from a normal domestic plug point.
Looks fun!

There's already been a vastly faster electric bike. 0-60 in under two seconds, taking advantage of the max torque from 0rpm of electric motors.
4 hours to recharge!
Good inner-city commute though, plug it in when you get into work might be ready by the time you finish.

And a 60 mile range on a charge before a needing a recharge.

Looks promising. Only needs:
1. Cheap purchase price
2. Battery that will last at least 3 years without losses.
I saw that & thought wow! Then after a monent's ponder, I thought....no chance!
It's just *too* quiet. The sound of the exhaust at least gives the tourists another sense to know that there's a bike about.

Thats ok, I have a plan for an after-market add-on that using sensors from the throttle will play back "engine noise", modified by pitch and volume to sound real.
Then for £3 each I can sell "Can-Tones" so you can change how it sounds.

Could be on to something there! If you can integrate the horn and indicator noises, you could sell themed sound packs.
eg Mr T horn goes "MOVE SUCKER!!"
farmyard pack - tractor engine sound, cluck cluck for left indicator, quack quack for right, and mooooooooo for the horn.
star trek pack... warp speed noises from the zorst... ok i'll stop before i get carried away.

can't wait, do i text you and then it gets sent to my mobile, then i put phone on speak and play, while the bluetooth picks up throttle position and adjust volume & tone? at the end of month I get £3 on my phone bill + 0.33p for service charge?

Already been done I'm afraid (sounds for electric vehicles). And I know the person who did it!

I for one am excited about this whole thing. If the baterys are lighten than engines, lighter bikes, lighter parts, more corner speed, perfect torque, who needs top end power for the real world. :)
