Anyone have any experience with these bikes? Would it be a good move up from the pointy?
My bike just blew its engine badly and i have to have another bike. I commute every day a total of about 60 miles and the bike will have to live outside.
Are they any good, in the sense of maintenance and tyre eating etc?
I raised this a while back. Mixed thoughts, but the B1H is meant to have quite an extreme riding position, and suspension that isn't very favourable for the road in standard spec.
In saying that, they seem to be great value for money if you can find one around £2500.

Sorry if this post is a bit late but I have an 03 B1H so essentially the bike your looking at. It's bloody uncomfortable but if you can put up with that (I have for a year of commuting) then it's an absolute riot. I think a good word to describe it would be 'An animal!' If you want anymore details feel free to PM me. Maintenance/tyres are the same as any other sports 600. About 3500 mile service intervals & new rear tyre 4/5k depending on how you treat it. I commute on mine and it's fine apart from being hard as nails on suspension :)

I believe a J2 is what you need - and can be had for under 2k

I'd have an earlier one myself given the choice, have ridden one of the last of the carbed version and it was fine, riding position not too cramped, handled well enough, went well and pretty fun when you wind it up. Have not ridden a later one to compare but they are supposedly a lot more focused.
I want one as my next bike, if you dont like it ill take it off you (in 1 year and 5 months) :)
Had a 636 running for a couple of weeks before swapping it- pretty useless at low revs, fun at high revs and very good suspension, and felt very planted at silly lean angles. Wish I had kept it a bit longer really.

the g and j models were the last of the good zx6's as kawasaki went race focused after these models and never got it right.

I have a mate who commutes on his and he loves it. Although if you use it in the rain and the winter the bike's condition will quickly deteriorate. I'd get a winter hack as well if I were you.
a few of us have the G-1 which is meant to be more comforatble than the post 03 (?) versions, but its still knee breaking & back numbing....im getiing ready to change back to something easier on the body...but you should try it if you really want it , you can always trade it in if it disagrees...
