Almost had my SV a year now and had no intention of upgrading until I went past the dealer on the way home today and just thought I would have a look around. And a few bikes caught my eye and got me thinking about upgrading. Just wanting any views on people that have moved on to other bikes and any feedback would be much appreciated.
Looking at either:
R6
CBR-RR
GSXR 600
Daytona 675
ive checked insurance wise and it will be about 200-300 more than the SV, the daytona is the most expensive all the others are about the same.
depending what I can get for my k8 (any ideas what a k8 reg 07/08 with 5000 miles is worth?) I could put another 1-2k, or get an older bike and not put as much in, but only thinking at this stage.
How easy will it be to get test rides with only been riding for a year?
I voted 600rr because I have one
The triumph is probably the best looking out of the bunch, but I ended up not getting one and getting the 600rr instead, because the 675 was uncomfortable for me, I felt to tall for it even though its quite a tall bike, and reliability issues.

Not considering a Kwak?
I voted Daytona all the way, its beautiful. Its my next bike after my pointy. As for test rides, i didn't have a problem test riding a brand new RSV mille when i had been riding for only 6 months. Maybe it depends on the dealer?!?

Depends on age.......most places you would never actually consider buying a bike from let anyone test ride a bike. Most actual proper dealers dont let people under 25 test ride I have found, usually for insurance reasons.
GSXR600 for me , read alot of reviews the gsxr and cbr are the best road going bikes. But depends what you want ofcourse, they are all cracking bikes the new kwak is suppose to be a stonker of a bike but again more track focused!!!
I've got my eye on a ZX6R - not ridden any of them yet, but just fancy a kwak. How come it's not on the poll - not interested in one?

.
Lol,me too, personally i think they look the nicest(moto gp styling)& seem to mostly get the best reviews when it comes to the supersport middleweights......& you can do a hell of a lot to them;),let me know if you want pics:D
i know there a bit common nowaday's but that's for a reason i voted daytona look's great sound awesome and seem's to have the better of the big four easily taking everything in it's stride.

What are reasons for wanting an upgrade?
I have my Sv for about 18 months or so nearly 12000 miles now. Myself I feel like I'm getting to know my bike and how it works. I feel confident enough to throw it around it does everything I ask.
For me I live in the suburbs of city myself I feel won't get the best out a Super Sports. You will be amazed at the performance you can get out of something like an an SV.
I have rode an R6 and a ZX6 both 08 plates I had fun on em.
If you can afford it, without wanting for the basics in life go for it!
Its your life your an adult, live it how you want we only get one go at it! Let us know how it works out.
Ride them all, see which one you like. The differences are so small that any one of them is going to be good...
(Just don't get the triumph, everyone and their dog has one ;) )

I've got a ZX6R and its amazing when you're in the mood for it. Luckily when i'm not in the mood i've got a 528SE Beemer. I ride the ZX6 less than the SV and it is more pampered. I also only use it in the dry, whereas the SV was out all the time.

I find that people become attached to a particular bike or even a brand for really random reasons. I craved an underseat exhaust so it was the daytona vs cbr. Daytona was great but the cbr is the best! :D
Daytona 675 :)
Ive got one and love her, ignore rumours about realiability issues as it was a few of the FIRST ones that had hiccups, but tbh id test ride one as its a very tall/narrow bike and totally different animal to the sv
Nik, I havent test ridden any of the 600s, although my plan is to do so, even if it is just to see what they're like. Without jumping on any of them, the best looking for me is the R6, however its quite an extreme riding position and you do feel perched upon the bike. The GSXR is probably the comfiest of all those and the CBR the most reliable and best built.
I do wonder whether a 600 would be to my liking as I like the power to be there throughout the rev range and it seems 600s dont get going in the lower revs. Where did you see the bikes? Tilstons?
why not add the gxsr750 in the list not much more money to buy than the 600 and more torque win win.

Only one I haven't ridden is the Honda (and the Kwak, but it isn't on the list)
Currently have a 675, used to own the R6 and hired the GSXR a couple of times on the track.
I personlly would go for the R6 or the 675. Really wasn't a fan of the GSXR.
Go for which ever one you like the look of as there isn't a huge amount between then and you'll love which ever one you get anyway. (As has been demonstrated by all the peeps who voted in this thread!)

I'm in a similar boat. Got my SV coming to 10k and had it 18 months. I'm planning on keeping it probably a year or so after paying it off so let us know what you think.
I too voted for the CBR because I have one. Only ever test rode a CBR although at the time I was looking for a GSXR, got on it and absolutely fell for the CBR, from that point on I didn't even consider the GSXR!

thanks for all the input has given me lots to think about, i am off work today and might ring tillstons and see if i can arrange a testride - even tho its meant to be windy and cold all day
yeah rob at tilstons, they did not have that many 2nd hand bikes, had 1 cbr rr and a r6 2nd hand both to new to be affordable, they did not have the 675.
reading reviews online the CBR RR seems to be the best bike with the R6 and 675 a close 2nd, but like people have commented here i dont think its a great deal of difference for road riding

I've only had my SV a couple of months and I'm already feeling like this. Still nowhere nnear getting to grips with it properly, just get bored easily. I've voted CBR as I've always had a soft spot for them.

TBH there all great bikes and you'll love them all :) it takes a good rider to define which one is best, you'll never find the bikes limits and it will always be one step ahead of you :) just go for the cheapest or the one you like the look of best, i dont regret buying my gixer for one second ive rode it more than any other bike in years so i dont get much time to clean it :) and it still makes me grin everytime!

Daytona is the only bike there that you buy to own, I know if I'd bought one of the jap bikes I'd regret not buying the triumph every time I opened the garage door - they're so generic now they've not really done anything different since the Kwak 636. Massively capable but as much character as your tumble drier;)
The moment I got on the CBR (mine is an RR7) I instantly felt like I was part of the bike in a way that I never felt with the SV even though I loved every minute of owning it.
It is really difficult to explain how it has changed my riding and how it feels underneath me, but I'm sure a test ride will show all.
It still scares me regularly, but it is perfectly good for day to day commuting and IMO looks great too.
Oh and they are doing 0% on the 600 in a lot of dealers at the moment as they are on the GSXR 600, but the K8 isn't as nice looking as the K7.

first problem, tillstons said they dont do test rides for insurance reasons which i kinda understand but then surley no one will buy a bike without test riding it first, will ring a few other places and see if anyone around here does

no test ride's NO SALE! i used streetbike in halesowen and got testrides no problems, beware third party only insurance tho.
I love the 675 but i voted the CBR600 i would have one of those for sure. Or an R6.
I voted for the CBR, but without test rides I couldn't say for certain. One other option that takes my fancy is the GSXR-750.
GSXR-750. a great option at that but insurance group 17 i think, where as most of the others are 14-15
