View Full Version : Action Cameras?
Just wondering if anyone on here records their rideouts? I recently bought an ACk3000 action camera but to be honest the quality of video footage and sound was very poor so I took it back. I have an HD camera where the sound and video footage is excellent but I need to use several miles of duck tape just incase my expensive hd camera comes flying off and become an expensive brick!
Does anyone have a good (fairly cheap) setup that they recommend and how do you mount (oer?) your camera to the bike? Additional mounts, suction cups or mod your bike? ;)

My camera is a 4Kam - I cannibalised a mount they supplied, along with a Scottoiler Bracket to make up this solution, click on the link to see more and larger pictures.

Off the top of my head Seggons is deep into the quest for the perfect camera setup, might be worth a PM.

You obviously haven't heard about the vibey nature of the Z750.......
Although they did address it a lot in the refresh to the design in 07 :)

I am and my current solution might be a bit out of the posters budget. But one package that I would suggest is the DV500 with bullet camera from here: http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/dv500.htm
But that still might be a bit too expensive depending on budget. Another option is to buy just a bullet camera and plug it into the camcorder if it has a correct input.
I know there are cheaper recorders out there but from what I've seen and heard people have mixed results with them. It all comes down to how much your willing to pay as to the quality you get back. The setup I have is about £600 which is overkill for what it is, but I've now got to a point where I can press the button and know that it will record. :)
The way I have my camera mounted is onto the rad:

I have one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/520-SONY-CCD-HAD-HELMET-CAMERA-EXTREME-SPORT-ACTION-CAM_W0QQitemZ320371977113QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item320371977113&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 cost me £68 delivered and one of these http://www.espysecurity.com/EPDVR69-Portable-DVR.htm which Ipicked up for a bargain £60 brand new on ebay. Both together give great results.
Cheers for the replys.
I havent really put a max price on it yet, but I am dodging away from the really cheap end of the scale as the results are so bad.
I will look up the examples that have been given and research them abit more. ;)
I'd personally recommend the GoPro Motorsport Hero Wide (http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/GoPro_MotorSport_Hero_WIDE.html). This is ideal for recording rides and the fact that this particular model has a wide angled lens makes all the difference. The quality of the picture is really good too and it's pretty reasonably priced for the quality. It also comes with mounts so you can easily attach it to your bike, but it's really versatile so you can pretty much attach it to anything.
Which one have you got the 3mp or 5mp?

I found this video clip and the quality does look good. Wonder how they mounted it to the bike? gives a cool look. :D
Also found this VholdR HD

any opinions?
I've got the 5mp one and the quality is really good, I am really pleased with the videos it's produced. It's comes with suction mounts so that you can attach it to your bike, it works really well.:smt023
I've heard good things about the ContourHD (http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ContourHD_VholdR) too. You can choose between having it on the HD or SD setting, they both give a really good quality picture but you can then get different lengths of film, as the HD setting takes up a bit more space.
Cheers for the reply mate. If the quality of the 5mp GoPro is that good I may as well save myself £100 or so and get that.
now to find a cheap price online! :thumright:
Thats Ok - glad I could help.
I got mine from www.actioncameras.co.uk (http://www.actioncameras.co.uk) by the way, you should give them a look.
