View Full Version : Bikes in Bus Lanes. We need your help
You could be next!
Transport for London report little feedback (i.e. apathy) from motorcyclists in respect of the trial of motorbikes sharing bus lanes in London. In contrast, cyclists continue to lobby to have bikers banned again, despite little or no evidence of biker + cycle accidents since the trial began.
If we value the right to use bus lanes, and reduce our filtering risk, then participating in the survey may be to our advantage, especially as the London outcome is likely to guide what other UK cities do. This is the link to the very short TFL poll / survey; https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/finesandregulations/motorcycleinbuslanes/default.aspx
Thanks for your support :)

Duly completed. Folks, this isn't the same as the Downing Street online petitions, this is worth filling out. You can guarantee the cyclists will be all over this asking for us not to be allowed in the bus lanes. They blame us for the accidents in bus lanes involving cyclists/motorcyclist that they usually cause.

At the very end of the survey, and its a very short survey too, they have sections asking your:
age group
sex
location.
Under location they have london boroughs or "i'm not in london" and i dont think they have any reason to rule out your comments cos your not "in" London, after all loads of people commute into london on a daily babsis and their input is just as valid i'm sure.
Done, Put down that i drive an artic through london and that ide rather bikers were in the bus lanes as i would hate to find a fellow biker under me wheels :smt103 I cant see every corner of my truck

Told 'em I live in Westminster, think it'd be too much effort for them to check where works proxy server claims to be located.

You might well live in Westminster and work outside of London. ;)
Personally I was honest about living outside London and requested that they make the lanes consistent. As an outsider, I can't learn which lanes I'm allowed in/not allowed in and checking every sign I pass is taking up concentration that could be spent on dodging cabs and cyclists.
Filled it in from my second abode in Ealing.
Another forumer that resides in Greenwich has completed it :)

I find it funny that non tax paying bicyclists who wobble around on 25 year old machines with dodgy brakes could outswing us tax paying motorcyclists.
Filled in..

Filled it in again.
I have flipped my second home to Lewisham.
I will probably flip it again next time this thread gets bumped.
Completed. I've used these so feel my input is valid, would also hate for bus lanes to be taken away from us in Bristol although with so many cycle lanes I don't feel they would be.. Hopefully.
Cardiff for some reason don't allow bikes in bus lanes which I was pretty disappointed with.

completed. although it's not that often that I ride in London, the scheme has been rolled out already in parts of Buckinghamshire, and works really well - all be it with less volume of traffic. Lets hope the decision goes the right way!
Done :D

I expect cyclists have already written a program that fills in the
questionnaire every minute. There are enough geeks amongst cyclists
to do this.
Don't we have a geek in the house who could do something like this?
:-k What we need is a Professor or ...

Completed, in the comments I wrote the usual stuff plus....
As for crossing on foot, I have always found bicycles to be a problem as they are silent so you can't hear them coming, they have a smaller thinner profile without powerful headlights so are more difficult to see head-on, many travel at speed, and bicycles cannot swerve or stop as easily as a car or motorbike in an emergency.

It'd be very naughty of the cyclists lobby if they resorted to underhand tactics like that tho.
