Wife sent me this today :-)

Dear Mr. Darling,
Please find below my suggestion for fixing Britain's economy.
Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will be squandered on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan :-
There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings .........................Unemployment fixed.
2) They MUST buy a new British car .............................................Twent y million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage ............Housing Crisis fixed.
4) They MUST send their kids to school / college /university ..........Crime rate fixed
5) They MUSt buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week ........................there's your money back in duty / tax etc!!!!

It can't get any easier than that!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back there falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.

A very useful spin off from that policy would be to cause the instant retirement of nearly all our MPs.
Great idea.

Sounds good until you realise 20M times £1M is £20Trillion.
They've not been bailing out the banks that much!

The total UK bailout of the banks is about £1Trillion or £50,000 each person over 50.
Sill a lot of money but not enough to retire on, buy a house & a car.

Emm, what British cars are available for sale? :smt102 you obviously including Toyotas etc. ;)

Sounds far more 'PC' than the e-mail I got from a friend today...:p

Terrorists - most of them came here legally, but they hung around on expired visas, some for as long as 10-15 years.

Now, compare that to Blockbuster: two days late with a DVD and they're all over you.

Let's put Blockbuster in charge of immigration.
