Where have you seen this quoted?
When I got my 2006 R6, the were still selling the older less focused 2005 model. Insurance companies differentiated between the 2 by calling the new one "R6R" and the old one "R6". So unless Yamaha are releasing some special edition, I'd imagine it just describes the newer post 2006 model R6's.
EDIT: Actually I think it was Yamaha who stuck the R on to differentiate
