My boots arent waterproof. I have a set of Sidi Verts which are perfectly useable and are comfortable but theyre not waterproof. Im after some kind of over boot protection which could help me out. Does anyone know of anything which I could use?

Also, does anyone have a particular oversuit for leathers which they rate for both fit, quality and waterproof ability?

Sidi do a water proof cream, seem to of worked fine on my vertigos so far, or try some dub wax.

water proofs never worn them over leathers and neither do i carry them now, i used to carry under my peds tank cover HG trousers and a kagool

Always had dry legs (as i only wore jeans on my ped then over trousers when it rained) and they never leaked so i rate them, as for fit pop down to a store with your leathers on and try them on

I have a pair of 'Sealskinz' which are basically water proof socks. you wear them inside your boots ;) Three layers. Outer, waterproof (completely) and a merino wool inner (or something).

They're a bit like wearing neoprene boots, but they keep your toes warm and dry.

www.sealskinz.com (http://www.sealskinz.com/)
Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealskinz-Mid-Light-Merino-Socks/dp/B000MVTWO2/ref=sr_1_3/279-5468043-1450327?ie=UTF8&s=clothing&qid=1242772636&sr=8-3)

They may be cheaper elsewhere, I only had a brief look.
Ben.

Carrier bags outside yer socks! Or maybe these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPADA-WATERPROOF-OVERBOOTS-11-75-FREE-UK-DELIVERY_W0QQitemZ290317057132QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU K_Motorcycle_Boots?hash=item290317057132&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Or I have a pair of these, basically wellies, supposed to be breathable but I can't see how. I think they are leather but have been dipped in moulton plastic or something, not much crash/impact protection but you could stand in bucket of water for 1/2 hour and they wouldn't leak. They don't actually get sweaty either as the are quite generous round the foot like wellies so breathe from the top.

I have on of those cheap 'clover' rain suits for over leathers and they are great (bit sweaty as they dont breathe like fancy goretex)
SMX4's for the feet :)

Carrier bags outside yer socks!

prolly only meant as a joke but I can seriously recommend AGAINST this.

Sure fire way to serious athlete's foot in and amongst yer toes, and that wierd thing where the skin on the sole of your foot goes mentally itchy to the point where you could be scratching it with a sharp piece of metal & it feels so good. But then the next day the itching is gone and your feet are in bits!

I tried above method at a festival; my feet were wrecked for about 2 weeks afterwards :(

Lidl/Aldi do them as well but you have to wait for their bike gear & not much cheaper

I've got a couple of versions of waterproof motorbike overboots going spare if you're interested. My Altberg boots are waterproof so no longer needed ;)

Both are largeish size (size 10 boots) and very little used, one's a waxed cotton (I think Belstaff) and the other pair was from HG and have a rubber type sole, I need to dig them out to be sure.

PM me if interested, I can send pics and details.

In all seriousness, I've never had a problem with leaky boots. I really would love a pair of sidi's but they are as waterproof as a seive. I have a pair of Alpinestar roam and ridge boots, both are waterproof and they're right! I've been in some right horrid rain, never leaked once :-)

I have Sidis for the dryer and light rain days, I use Kiwi and Dubbin to keep them in good shape.
For the days when I have to ride and it's raining persistently I have a pair of Frank Thomas Aquaboots, cost around 40 quid or so. They don't look great but they are 100% waterproof as they're basically a welly boot that has been styled to look like a bike boot

They look good at that price* but you still end up with wet boots to deal with :???:

*£2.99 Bid or £3 BIN, one question Why?

Tis' true.

Soles have worn through on mine, mainly 'cos a few years ago I had a tankslapper (on an SV Ecosse rideout) which resulted in me kicking the bike back upright with my feet and took a load of rubber off one heel. I'm going to buy another pair just to keep in the wardrobe for really wet days 'cos they can't be beaten as far as waterproofness goes.

I've got Sidis, and gone with the waterproof socks solution. I'm not convinced that an outer cover wont get hooked on something just when I need to dab down.

I'v got a pair of SMX4's and there not waterproof and still do a great job of keeping rain out to and from work after a year!
Only in heavy rain they let up and start leaking through the stitching.

Can't afford new boots, might look into the waterproof overboots.

Embee, Pm me with details of those bits & bobs you have, particularly the HG stuff

Rob, if you go for seal skinz socks you can also use them for mountain biking (why I have mine), double win :D Also you help solve the seal overpopulation crisis that has happened during the credit crisis as they can no longer afford birth control or sell off their kids to make nice coats.

'Tis true - I've driven through flash thunderstorms in mine and stayed perfectly dry. Would have got wetter stopping to put the hood up.

On topic, I have the same boots and same problem. Am going to try dubbin to see if that helps - it waterproofed my leather jacket afterall.....

Two tips I use ---Clean your boots and polish, finish off with silicone spray and let it dry
Re-hands/gloves---Either keep a set of surgical type gloves in your pocket for inside your bike gloves, alternatively pinch a pair from the forecourt and put them over the top of your own gloves

I actually used Goretex waterproof spray once I'd polished my boos but they still ended up getting wet. I think I just need to block the holes by wearing something over the top

I've got a pair of Lidl/Aldi/Netto (don't remember which) motorcycle boots in a size 8. I don't wear them cos they're horribly uncomfortable for me. I bought them because my Sidi Black Rains saturate quicker than bog paper. They've been worn a few times in severe downpours and they've never leaked. They're in very good condition.

If you wanna try them, shout and we'll meet up somewhere.

You could using waterproofing spray such as this (http://www.millets.co.uk/product/080355.html)

I use something similar on my textile kit once it starts getting a bit past it and it works a treat. Never tried it on boots though..

Altberg boots. 100% waterproof after 6 hours of torrential rain, river crossings, etc.

Ive been using the sandiwtch bags on feet every day its rained on my commute for the last year. I never commute for longer than half hour in either direction but its done the trick. Sock, Bag, Sock, Boot. its not different than buying a pair of sealsocks only a damn site cheaper.
I even did it for the pennine ride out, no problems.
