Hello clever techy peeps. Before I start I'd like to make it clear this is on my Daytona.

Having taken the rear wheel off I found a spacer which slots into the sprocket carrier has two large-ish scores but only around 1/3 of the circumference.

Here's the pic:

It seems a bit strange to me. One of the front wheel spacers had a couple of scores too but they went all the way round (I found quite a lot of hair in there?!!).

Here's where the spacer fits; It's number 16 and it goes between the sprocket carrier and swingarm in a hole with a dirt/dust seal around it:

As far as I can tell it shouldn't be spinning with the wheel.

What has caused the strange wear? Should I get a new one? When I put the wheels back on I used type 2 multi-purpose lithium grease. Is that ok?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Que? Oh I get it. "It's not unusual"?

Hehe aye.

I believe it's caused by any fine grit getting between the seal lip and the spacer.

So just replace it when it gets a lot worse?

I doubt it will get any worse, IIRC pretty much every wheel spacer I've had out has shown similar marking.

OK thanks. Strange that it's not all the way round.

Without further adue I will forget all about it and start enjoying my lovely, freshly serviced, freshly rubbered up bike!

Cheers Chris.

As Chris says, don't worry about it. The spacer stays still whilst the wheel turns, so the seal rubs on the spacer causing the grooves
