Evening all,

In another thread a few of us were on about going for a ride this saturday. Just wondered if anyone is still up for this, assuming the weather aint too bad.

If people are up for it then we just need a route and i think one was suggested before which looked pretty good. Will get the link now and paste it into this thread. Otherwise open to any suggestions for a route. Since i'm a newbie dont know many decent bike routes.

Let the posting commence :-)

thanks to fallen angel for this route.

There's one i made but i don't think it's long enough for a days ride. Perhaps a couple of hours with lunch at the end.

Looks good to me, we can stop in Caerleon and have a few drinks (cokes) in one of the pubs along the river

I added in a trip along the A48 as it's a good route to chepstow and the bellhanger (Spoons) in chepstow is great. Free car parking too. Only problem is you keep lapping over usk and chepstow.

Cymraeg_Atodeg

Looks like a random TT course, ha ha

IIRC most of the pubs in Cheppers are small, thats why I was thinking Caerleon might be better, as the pub I was thinking of had a big car park, perfect for loads of bikes...

thefallenangel
26-05-09, 08:58 PM
bell hanger in chepstow has a carpark behind with 10 parking spaces for bikes (free spaces) Although we can go along the A48, loop back along magor/underwood/caerleon and have lunch at the ampethreate with chips or beers in pub.

I must admit I have not been in Chepstow in a while, but, where the hell is this pub? :-s

Well, I am happy with what anyone else wants, I just wanna ride

is no where near the TT

which i will be doing a recce of soon, all welcome

do you have a leader/TEC for these rideouts? or do you just stick together?

wizurd
27-05-09, 11:41 AM
not sure about what to do with the leader situation. When me craig and tim went out on sat just gone it was just a stick together kind of thing and make sure we were altogether at junctions/roundabouts. I guess it depends on numbers and if anyone is confident doing a proper leader system. Happy with a pub anywhere :-D lol Caerleon is nice in the sun

My comment was more in reference to the shape not the length of the route...

hovis
27-05-09, 07:23 PM
hehe

i know

but the welsh TT is the route which i have lead a few times, theres a few thread is you take a peek, im planning a camping trip in july, all is welcome

i dont mind leading, but i like to know where im going,

oh, and i dont do TEC............ NEVER

Cymraeg_Atodeg

I am just happy to ride, where ever and whenever...

I might see if I can do the campling in July, depends what is happening in work.

hovis
27-05-09, 07:29 PM
i plan on doing a recce of the TT in june.

theres a few that want to come, and i think its a bit short notice for this weekend?

plus like i said i dont mind leading, but i prefer doing drop offs, and would like to give someone else a chance, as it seems its either me or mogs doing it, out of the locals in south wales.

Cymraeg_Atodeg
27-05-09, 08:39 PM
If I knew the route better I would lead, but, I imagine I am not the fastest of riders either, I am still learning to control Suzi :-)

thefallenangel
27-05-09, 08:45 PM
i can lead if you want as i know the route pretty well. I'm just not 100% sure of the road from Monmouth to Venny. I did it a week ago in a combo van and it was a good back road.

However i'm not the fastest in the world.

And if i'm gonna lead i'd like to use drop-off.

hovis
27-05-09, 08:45 PM
IMO the rideout leader needs to be of a certain speed, other wise the riders behind tend to get bored/fustrated

unless its stated before hand it will not be that quick

Cymraeg_Atodeg
27-05-09, 08:50 PM
Well, if it is dry, I can keep a turn of speed, but, I don't intend on speeding anywhere, I have a clean licence and like that fact... ha ha

thefallenangel
27-05-09, 08:51 PM
i don't mind leading at all. I know all the roads on the rideout pretty well as it's where i work and i can take you on some alternative roads too.

Good weather this weekend so a planned ride (even if only 2 days notice) would be grand.

Cymraeg_Atodeg

Bassaleg is normally used but if were all from newport way and riding east i don't really see the point. Coldra roundabout could be a good idea.

hovis
27-05-09, 08:55 PM
im not from newport

mcdonalds on coldra roundabout?

thefallenangel
27-05-09, 08:56 PM
yeah. I'm revising so i'll set something properly in the morning unless someone else wants to do it.

Cymraeg_Atodeg
27-05-09, 09:11 PM
Revising!? Not done that in years!

I am not from Newport either, but, I am not fussed on a meeting point, as long as I know where it is, ha ha

after 12 would be best for me,?

Bris-Rob

Would probably come staright from work.

wizurd
28-05-09, 11:31 AM
12 or just after is ok for me too. Give's me chance to clean the bike up a bit.

McDonalds on Coldra round about also ok for me. Theres a sign showing up on the M4 that the a449 is going to best closed on the 30th. However think it said evening, in which case shouldn't affect us

You are right its says 30th May Night.

Bris-Rob
28-05-09, 02:41 PM
Is that off of junction 24 on the a48?

wizurd
28-05-09, 05:07 PM
its junction 24 of the M4, by newport. Assuming your coming from bristol then its across the severn bridge, 2nd junction (1st one being magor)

Cymraeg_Atodeg
28-05-09, 06:53 PM
Is that off of junction 24 on the a48?

When you come off at Jct 24 of the M4 and take the 5th exit (the one after the A449, but, before going back onto the M4.

You then have to go to the little roundabout, go back on yourself, then turn left into the area with the hotel and McD's in there

You are right its says 30th May Night.

I don't intend on riding for that long, ha ha

wizurd
29-05-09, 10:49 AM

hovis

you young uns are quite poor at organizing rideouts

lol

some one need to take charge.

Cymraeg_Atodeg
29-05-09, 06:55 PM
Alright then, as I have organised meets for other forums and my own forum I will 'take the lead'

12pm; Meet McD's off the Coldra (Jct 24 M4)

12:30pm-ish; Start ride out. I will look at the map from earlier and I'll take the lead if everyone is alright with that. We can discuss pace before we set off too, unless people want to have meeting points along the route, like say at Usk so the 'slower' riders can catch up before we all set of again, cool?

hovis

This is the route from McD's on Jct 24 M4 to the Hanbury Arms in Caerleon I have come up with, but, Google only tells me it is 1 1/2 hours of riding. Do you want more?

Cymraeg_Atodeg

Was a good ride, was just me and Rob in the end.

Weather was great as were the roads when there wasn't a car or tractor in the way...

Loads of bugs too, I just finished cleaning my leather, ha ha

wizurd
31-05-09, 07:43 PM
lol bloody bugs - still got a nice big yellow and red splash on the front fairing from some minging bug.

We'll have to try to organise things better in the future :-) i'll make sure im there for the next one
