Hey guys and girls...

I thought we could do with a bit of cheery news, after all these offs...so...

Today I embarked on my own little adventure...my first "Long Solo"

I went from home in Livingston to Moffat via the old A74 (not the motorway - far too windy for that!), from there I met up with a friend and we went a mooch around some of my old childhood haunts...along some gorgeous quiet roads, only saw two other vehicles and some sheep on them! Down to Lockerbie and then I headed back north to West Calder... here's a rough map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=bishops+park+livingston&daddr=A74%28M%29+to:Moffat+UK+to:Wamphray+to:55.19 6116,-3.35495+to:Lockerbie+to:Johnstonebridge+to:Beattoc k+to:A74%28M%29+to:Carstairs,+Lanark,+United+Kingd om+to:Forth+to:Bishops+Park,+Mid+Calder,+Livingsto n,+West+Lothian+EH53,+United+Kingdom&hl=en&geocode=%3BFUC7TgMdG5vH_w%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3B%3BFU6h TgMd9JnH_w%3BFYbcUQMdC7HH_w%3B%3BFS20VAMda8vK_w&mra=dme&mrcr=3,4&mrsp=4&sz=11&sll=55.210614,-3.405762&sspn=0.22096,0.727844&ie=UTF8&ll=55.818644,-3.524551&spn=0.217573,0.727844&z=11)

It was a very good very positive run, and I just wanted to share with you all my happy news. I even got to experience my first run in the rain...and strong winds... :)

my trip meter says 150.7 miles... my longest solo run yet and I'm dead chuffed.

I'd like to make it a regular little run, so if anyone wants to join me next time you'd be more than welcome.

:D

Very good, glad you had a good time.. :)

How about venturing north this Sunday?

Would be good if you could make it, there will be riders coming up from you're area to go up with.

Well done you \\:D/

Thats a fair distance Jen, was you all stiff afterwards. I bet you felt exhausted but rewarded afterwards.

I was out on Monday for a run, come off the M8 at Newhouse and followed the A73 > A721 > A72 all the way to Innerleithen then took the B709 to Mountbenger and then on too Moffat via the A708. Took the A701 > A72 back to Glasgow. Some really nice roads down that way and very great scenery around St Mary's Lake etc

+ 1 on the sheep BTW they were everywhere on the A708 even on the road, even the tiny baby ones too.

Great job, roll on the next ride out lol

Well done Jen. How proud are you? So you should be as well, keep at it and before long you will be putting the rest of us to shame with the mileage.

Nice run, thats a good route you took as the roads are never overly busy most of the way. I just noticed your in Mid Calder, i'm about 5 minutes away in Murieston, and you seem to have a connection to where I was born West calder.

That is the way to go fenjer,
The old A74 is a good road and not a lot of traffic on it.

The A74 was ace, only saw half a dozen other bits of traffic on it both ways. :D

Some lovely sweeping bends on it too so I can get at those chicken strips! lol

Solo round the world biker, book (http://""http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=132132) that inspired "Charlie and Euan" on their weird way down;) I've a copy if you want to read it. As in really solo, no support vehicles or backup team of any kind.

Jen, does this mean you're ready to return the favour and take me pillion now that i'm bikeless;)

LOL KG...

you may find the seat cowl and lack of grab rail a tad nerve wracking!

I'd be bricking it mate...honestly I am terrified of taking pillion passengers... why else would I have a seat cowl! ;)

Who is Ted Simon?
For motorcyclists of a certain age, he is the Daddy.

Damn.......(good book though. Have you tried reading 'Lois on the Loose' by Lois Pryce - married to Austin Vince (?) of Enduro Mundial (?) fame? She's also done an African trip, but I can't remember the name of that one. She writes with a fair bit of humour. Good books).

Never heard of her, too young you see, but sounds good. Only snag is I don't want Mrs Tiger to get any ideas, she's only been away for 4 days and there's nothing to eat and the kids are as filthy as frenchmen.

Red Tape & White Knuckles is the African one. It says here.
