Went for a long weekend ride through some remote areas in the mountains and forests.. across the pond here in Virginia and North Carolina.

Sorry not the best of pics.
Not a lot to choose from as I was only able to take a few.
After the first day it was raining for most of the trip.
Still had a great time!!! :D

One of my favorite places to stop.

This waterfalls has a large pool at it's base formed from the rock.
Water overflowing the pool runs through a pipe under the road.
You can see at the top, on the right it has third "vein" that also empties into the pool.
It's situated in the middle of a sharp bend and the other side of the drops off a cliff so it's seemingy impossible to photograph the entire falls.
Larger than it looks in this pic.

If you ever wanted to learn how ride tucked in behind the windscreen....
Try the inside line at "The Rock".

275 miles into the first day and the SV is still clean!!
(although parked on the only piece of trash in sight!!)
Was not clean when it got back home.
(Don't worry as soon as she got home she had a nice bath before being tucked back in under her flannel sheets)

One of the many places in the world known as "Lovers Leap".
This one near Stuart, VA

The roads that didn't offer mountain top views all looked like this.
Nothing but nice tarmac and forest.

That looks really, really good! Those roads through the forest look perfect and I love the rock bend! How many scratches are there on that?

You are a lucky man, having all that space to play.

They are Chase Harper Steath Saddlebags (US word for panniers)
Mine are model # 3100MCM (all black)
3100mcmGYBR have colour accents.
Google to find a dealer who sells them.

They do work very well.
I really like the pre-formed shape and they are indestructable ....guaranteed!!!!
They are guaranteed for life not to break/tear/etc. for any reason ... including if damaged in a crash!!!

This is my second set. The first set got scuffed up in a crash last year but don't qualify for replacement as "they still perform and function as original"....just look a bit scuffed.
No holes or tears though, even after the bike sliding on one of them for 50 ft. or more. Even the zippers held.
Have used tools to pull the zipper loose after accidently catching part of a bin bag in the zipper. You just can't break them.

If you're thinking of buying a set, don't hesitate.
They look great and the quality is simply unmatched.
Very easy to mount and take off as well.
One of the best pieces of kit I've ever purchased for the bike.

I know.
It's a harley thing.
Can't well have panniers on an "iron horse".
Just figured if anyone was going to try and google for them....

Not that I would but... the damage isn't bad enough for all that!!!

Any budget minded .org'er who's more interested in function than looks could probably pick up a set for postage. ;)

Will check on bike hire....might take me a day or two.
Work is insanely busy right now.

ok Bill you started it.........
make arrangements for about 100 plus brits coming across the pond to test out your roads…
bed and breakfast and bike hire….well bring the beer….:drink:
Might not be practicable for so many riders turning up at your door step,
BUT
It would be bloody hilarious ……. :smt043

100???
:help:

Ahhhh....but they wouldn't be on my doorstep long.
A tour of the best roads would be an 1800+ mile round trip from my house.
Would be better just to meet you in North Carolina. (where the very best roads are)
Oh and yes, thank you, tours would be limited to a dozen or less riders. ;)

This is America!
Cattle would stampede, old ladies would faint, pregnant women would go into labor, men would go crazy and little chrildren would run away from home... all from the sight of 100 bikes together... that were NOT Hardley Ableson's.

On the serious side.
If you can get a rough idea of the prices involved of bike hire and
accommodation's .
There could be a serious response..
Where would the trip be, roads / places etc…
Would one week be enough ?...

Sounds like a volunteer for AR10 :)

Wonder how much it would cost, how many bikes you could fit in, and how fast a shipping container can make it across the Atlantic :)

Especially at the spectacle of bikes actually going faster than cars. Probably send them all into a fit that big group of bikes doing more than 200rpm too :-P

Taking a serious note…
How many people would be interested in going over there for a ride….
About 1 week…

Enough people interested, we might try to make this happen ….
It is feasible ...and not just a wind up.

Since there does seem to be some interest, I'll see what I can put together next week.
You could say I've had a little experiance in planning motorcycle events. LOL ;)

Will get some costs first. Location of bike hire critical to planning.
The trip would be to western North Carolina. (mostly)
One week is enough.

More details later....

Crazy busy this weekend.
Son graduates school tomorrow.
Leading rideout on Saturday.
Graduation party at the house Sunday and some time I've got to go into work and do paperwork before Monday.

Will get on this first thing next week.

Finding a decent bike hire seems to be the chore...but prices all seem about the same.

Meals, fuel, lodging and bike hire would run about $300 USD per day.
(perhaps a bit less but I always plan for max expenses)
At todays exchange rate that would be about 184 GBP per day.

Truthfully it's looking as if 2010 would probably be best.

At the onset I was thinking more in terms of possibly a few individuals who might happen to pop over for a ride.

If we're looking at doing this as an .org rideout, setting a specific date a few months ahead of time makes more sense and would give more people time to prepare for such a trip.

Also if we're looking at a weeks worth of riding, I'd like to have every detail of each days ride already planned out . Ride route, fuel & food stops, etc.
If you're going to coming all the way to America to ride you deserve to get the most out of every day here.
The best roads, the best scenery, the best rides!

Like any .org ride this would be for riders of all skill levels.
If needed....There will be places on each ride for faster riders to jet ahead to the next stop. (maps of each days ride and stops will be provided)

But for those who can't wait till next year...( if it's only a few riders)...a trip with 3 full days of riding....I could do very easily...and still would be a trip to remember.

An .org rideout here in 2010 ??
That would be as cool as it gets!

I'd be up for it if the US Govt didnt want my fingerprint and retina scan first.

I had to go visit a friend from the US Navy while he was stationed in Sicily as i told him i wont come to see him when he moves back to Alabama. his wife and kids are over ehere next month so i get to see them again but who knows when i'll next see him, unless he comes here or Mr Obama decides to drop the pointless collection of innocent peoples biometric data...but i cant see that happening sadly.
