Come this summer tour a couple of us will have done all the furthest points on the compass for the British mainland
Durness[John'O'Groats] North
Lands End South
Felixstowe East
Ardnamurchan Point West
The only bit of the UK we haven't comprehensively toured is Welsh WALES-----------save that for next year

How many times have you to be telt?
The Lizard is the most southerly point. All there is at Lands End is charity walkers/cyclists getting their picture taken and mugs buying tourist tat.
And I've got no idea where Durness is but Dunnet Head is the most northerly point...

I though Lowestoft was the most easterly point also.
Sorry DT you are going to have to replan :)
Didn't know about Ardnamurchan but its looks right on a map - westmost point on the mainland. Gotta agree with Lowestoft being eastmost though - Felixstowe is obviously further west.

Lands End definitely the most westerly point on the mainland, and Lizard Point the most southerly - bag 'em both in an afternoon bimble :)

+1, if you absolutely positively have to go there avoid the tourist season so you don't have to pay for the car park, otherwise park down the road and walk the last bit - they have every method of squeezing money out of you pretty much covered.

Nope according to my sources its that scottish place. Admachurklajffasf whatever it is. Quite a bit further west than Lands End.
Dunnet head is more northerly than John O' Groats.
And for pictures, John O' Groats sign is only up certain times, due to fears of vandalism and theft.
Check if you're going for pictures.
Dunnet Head and John O' Groats: Dunnet Head and John O' Groats (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=58.674796,-3.132477&spn=0.316285,0.883026&t=h&z=10)
I'm pretty sure the only significance of john'o'groats and land's end is that they're the 2 points on the mainland with the longest distance between them.

Ah pish, there goes another of the facts I learnt at school :study: I bow to your greater knowledge.
I prefer Lizard Point anyway, nicer road and the best pasties ever at the end of it http://www.connexions.co.uk/lizardpasty/

IT IS BUT HUMAN TO ERR----------I meant Dunnet Head and Lowestoft
[Durness is the YH-SORRY]
[Felixstowe mistake meant Lowestoft]
[Lizard Point on the way to Lands End]
One does like a bit of controversy--,any way done all four points

Ardnamurchan Lighthouse 6° 13.4′ W
Lands End 5° 44'W
Don't look at roadmaps, use an atlas, the UK is not as upright as the AA and RAC would have us believe.
