Carburettor balancing

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend where I can get the carbs on my SV balanced in the county Antrim / greater Belfast area?

I've looked at my spark plugs tonight and the tip of the spark plugs are a pale grey colour, which according to the haynes manual means indicates a weak fuel mixture.

Have you put an end can on or a new filter ? running lean could be on idle or on the full jet etc ..

H'mm checking your plugs this way isn't a good guide. Best give them a clean first, then take the bike up the road and give it a good blast before hitting the kill switch (mind there's nothing behind you.

Then check your plugs.

Balancing the carbs won't affect the mixture, it's down to how clean your air filter is, have you put a different end can or pipes on?

Plus there might be a small air leak affecting the mixture.

The engine will benefit from having the carbs balanced, as it'll quieten down cam chain noise as both cylinders will be sucking the same amount and not being out of unison.

Sounds like your SV needs a service!

I haven't fitted an end can or a different filter....it is running a standard filter.

I have a 33bhp kit fitted. The airbox is damp with petrol residue and I've been told that this is happens with the restrictor kit I have fitted.

Sorry I can't help, as mine isn't restricted.

Balancing the carbs is a simple job for any bike shop, so it may help, even to just make the engine run a little smoother.

Is the standard filter clean? If not change it or at least give a blow through with a garage air line from the inside. That'll help the engine breath a bit better

Mine aint restricted either but any garage should be able to balance it for you in a few mins, worst case it's 30 mins work
