Hey guys/girls geting my bike in the next few days as some of you allready know and as my last one was stolen im not going to let it happen again .
I have been looking at the EXena disk lock alarms
http://www.xenasecurity.com/product/motorbikes/alarm/page1/
but thought whats the point in paying 100 pounds + for a disk lock alaram when i can put the extra to and get a full alarm system and fitted.
So what makes models should i be looking for ?
How much should i be looking to pay i have been quoted from 270 to 350 pounds up 2 now .
cheers guys

You're better to use a bloody big chain. Or a dozen rottweilers.

Agree with Yorkie Chris. Spend your money on an Almax Chain and Lock set and chain your bike through the frame to an immovable object. You may find you can't get a 19mm chain through the frame in which case also get an Anti-Pinch Pin.
An Alarm just makes noise it doesn't stop your bike being picked up and thrown in a van quicker than you can get out of bed and put your pants on.

I've had two alarms, a Spyball and a Datatool System 3. I liked the Spyball and f***ing hate the Datatool.
The more layers of security that you have on your bike, the less likely it is to get nicked. As YC says, get a bloody big chain too. An alarm/immobiliser on its own isn't going to deter serious thieves, though it ought to put off casual ones.

Alarms don't stop determined thieves: they just toss a blanket over the bike to muffle the sound, pick it up and toss it into the back of a van. Physical security that stops them from moving the bike is a better deterrent, hence why people suggest Almax chains. Plenty of people have posted on here about how **** their alarms are, frequently going off for no reason in the middle of the night or immobilising the bike when they're trying to ride home.
Really, the only deterrent to theft is to own a bike no-one wants to nick.

lol i dont think a bike that no one wants to nick exsits
little ****s steel any bike, i know a guy who had no handle bars on his scotter because he was doing some work on it and it was stolen and was seen on a local field with a yob on it with the rev cable in his hand and a wrench in the other as the handel bar !!

Good on you. My next question would be if you are going to secure your bike in such a way that it is close to impossible to walk away with why waste money on an alarm?

Determined/professional thieves will always find a way...

Yes but an alarm isn't going to be as loud as the large angle grinder needed to get through a 19mm almax.

My SV Had a datatool Veto Evo on it. My other half's Ducati has a Datatool System 3 on it.
Both alarms are a complete pain in the ass. I dont know if its me or not, but I find the datatool system a nuisance I dont like the way it arms itself after 30 seconds so when your halfway through putting a tank of fuel in the alarm then goes off. The keyfobs are massive and feel clunky to use.
My GSXR has a Meta 357T on it. If you turn the ignition on and then off again it immobilises instead of arms so thats better for when filling with fuel. If you want to work on the bike you dont need to put it into service mode to stop it arming all the time like you do with the datatool, you can just leave the bike immobilised, they keyfob is much smaller and of a neater design.
If I had to plump for one I would say go for the Meta, but heres a tip, dont keep the keyfob on the ignition key. Keep it on a lanyard around your neck that way it wont get bumped and vibrated around and also it wont get the wet into it either.
I very nearly got stranded in wales a few years ago as the keyfob on the datatool got soaking wet and it messed the fob up and it wouldnt work anymore, luckilly I had put the alarm into service mode just before the fob stopped working so I was able to finish my ride and get home again.
Should you decide to fit a factory alarm I would say that my experience with Meta has been positive, and I find Datatool, while sophisticated, hugely irritating.
The Datatool system 3 (now replaced, I believe with the System 4) has the following "features" that I dislike:
Arms the alarm after 30 seconds of the ignition turning off, meaning it goes off while you fill up with fuel unless your sharp on the key fob to put it into no movement sensor mode.
Beeps continually in service mode to tell everyone the alarm is off.
Can be so sensitive they go off if it rains hard or someone dares to rest a lid on the tank (I'm completely serious)
The Meta:
Immobilises after 30 seconds, but only arms when you press the fob.
Just my experiences, and I understand much of the feature set of the Datatool system 4 can be changed.

cheers guys ill keep that in mind ...
i just order one of these XENA XX14 for £70 Inc P+P looks a nifty bit of kit
Baby monitors are a pain in the ass. I've used them before. They tend to 'click' every now and again even when quiet, can be very disruptive to your sleep.
My bikes are locked in an alarmed garage. The alarm has a gprs unit fitted so it texts my mobile phone as soon as its triggered. Keep my mobile near my bed.

The Xena's a nice piece of kit but it's a tad sensitive. I took the batteries out of mine because it kept going off in the middle of the night when the wind caused the bike cover to push on the disc lock.

im in a garage so that wont be a problem :)
+1 on what Fizz said.
I had the datafool 3 on the SV1000, a right royal pain in the ar$e.
If you farted near the thing it'd go off, service mode is just a joke.
Got the Meta357 on the Kwak, nowhere near as sensitive as the datafool.
Visible security is the best way to go, but as many have said, if some scrote wants it bad enough, they'll find a way of stealing it.
