Hi any advice would be appreciated.
I had a fail from the MOT garage, I think its the smallest thing when the engine is running the tail light is fine but when you put the indicator on the top 3 rows fade in and out.
The voltage on the battery is ok 12.9v

It would be helpful if you told us a little more about the make and model of your bike.

You have a bad connection somewhere mate. First off I'd have a look at the connectors for the rear lights - are they all clean and free of corrosion. if yes, then examine the cables - is there any sign of damage to the insulation that could be causing a short - pay particular attention to points where the cable might rub on the frame etc as this can wear away the plastic shieth after a while.

Sv650 K4 I had a look at the connectors all local to the LED cluster all looks fine and clean, I am going to take the rear left hand side plastic bits of tonight and have a look as I can see a few conectors there.. Thinking about it I might just run a cable stright off the battery + - starght to the led's and see what happenes.. ta for the advice

K4's have a problem with the rear lights - new unit required to fix I believe (unit is sealed so tricky to get into to look at fixing).
K5 onwards don't seem to have had this issue.

i too have had this tail light problem but on my K3. top three led's (both sides) go out upon indicator or brake light/lights being used.
replacement rear light sorted it as all cables/connectors were fine :(

My original post should have included K3 with K4.

I got it passed this morning after ripping out the Datatool alarm and putting in a brand new good battery... still had the same problem. the problem was the LED are so sensitive to the voltage they only drawing 20mA after stripping down the bike and 8 hrs later, a fix was to turn up the revs on the screw thing on the left of the bike just under the seat then its ok at the load is take by the generator as well sort of thing... O well thats it for another year then I put LED indicators on it for next time..
