US government bailed this company out using taxpayers money, and now they are seeking to increase the cost of crude oil?

Go figure....

Oh great... I had just gotten used to cheapy petrol.. what happened to the old £0.92/l unleaded about a month ago.....

It all needs a giant tidy up and it needs to be monitored fairly. If they sell petrol at £0.95/l as opposed to £1.15, they'll still be some of the richest people alive......

I had world. :o

The yanks will only invade France and Mexico if you do and then force up the prices of wine and nachos.

But fuel prices have since risen, mirroring the worldwide cost of oil, and a fuel duty increase of 2p per litre in September will also add to motorists' misery.

I forgot about that, well done GB

I remember when I first passed my driving test and I worked in a petrol station. The manager raised the price of unleaded to the unheard sum of 74.9p. I remember saying to her that nobody would pay it as it was WAY too expensive.

I remember petrol being 80p!!

If petrol goes too high, Im seriously considering using public transport for work and using my car on the weekends only. I refuse to pay more than £1.20 per litre. And before anyone says that public transport is just as expensive, I get to travel for free across the whole of london :D

oh dear, i remember when you used to be able to buy a Ferrari, go to the cinema in it, have a slap up dinner and buy your date a diamond ring....and still have change from a fiver

When i lived in the Canaries pertol there was the equivalent of 36p a litre. When i came back here i was ammused to see it was the oppsite at 63p a litre.

Time for more fuel protests i say. Viva La Revolution!!!!!

Thing is though it's like water rates, they can basically charge whatever they want, because it's deemed a "necessity"... they'll charge whatever they want and people will still pay for it.

You're right...to a degree. The fuel protests of a few years ago worked well and made a pint to the Govt.
Sahme the guy who was the protest leader seems to have been got at by the powers that be since.

Can't get your knee down though can ya!

UK fuel prices are some of the highest in Europe (if I remember rightly) and it's stupid.. There should be a capped maximum of £0.99/l regular unleaded and £1.04/l of regular diesel.. of course super unleaded would still probably be around £1.05 but anyway.

The government should adjust their fuel duty tax in line with the price of oil to keep it capped..... as if they don't make enough money already. The fact they throw our money away, when we're already billions of pounds in debt, to other countries about says it all.

Have you run your foot over on that too?

We are all getting stuffed in the long run as it puts the price up of buses too.
We need someone to start fuel protesting... someone with a lot of time on there hands. Someone who seems to be able to articulate themselves well...

Mmmmh.

You're right...to a degree. The fuel protests of a few years ago worked well

The 2000 fuel protests came straight after the abolition of the fuel tax elevator, which was the most motorist-friendly budget for a decade. They claim credit for things which happened before the protests ;)

I'm sure youre right about that Northy but as far as getting the public involved by having them queue up outside petrol stations, thus getting angry at the Govt, it worked too. Got em involved and aware.

Still hasn't stopped Shell and the others making billions in profit tho

I dunno mate, it mainly just seemed to be dumbed-down nonsense, people still complained about petrol tax increases right through when Brown was actually reducing tax, what does that tell him? Ignore the public, they have no clue. Or so it seems to me.

Spiderman
10-06-09, 07:48 PM
Once again, nail and head.

Even if they said the right thing the Govt would still ignore them. Lets not start with how over a million can march against an illegal war and still be ignored, eh?

Back in maaaa day petrol were 70 odd pee!

I don't give a toss, i'll keep paying for petrol until it hits 2 quid. Interesting that no matter how many times you watch (for a laugh) PMQs, there's hardly ever a question about why the fuel duty can't be lowered instead of raised. Mr and Mrs Shell don't help much either, but it's a joint effort.

yes and no, yes for the reason that you get more for your money, but no because £1 for 1 litre just seems so even and right, it makes me happy to lead a simple life lol :p

The cheaper it is the better, the higher it goes the more eco I had to ride because of my student income!

I would say its out of control, but its not its heavily controlled, the government milk it bone dry and will charge consumers as much as people will pay it, if people will pay it and are not complaining on a mass scale, do they care? No because it funds their second homes, mortgages, greedyness, etc.

It reminds me of the Top Gear episode when they're doing the awards and James May is thanking for the government for the heavy tax they had on the enjoyment and save in time we get from our fuel powered machines.

The most I'll pay per litre is £1.50, no more. I'm a student, its a pain to say I'm a tight **** because I dislike being like that with money, but its how life is. Although I love riding, thats when I'd have to spend more time cuddling my bike than riding. I don't know what 1000cc bikes are like on fuel, but my friend gets approx 100miles to £10.00 on his 636.

My CG125 cost me £5 to run because it uses so little fuel. Also I only use it for work five days a week and playing on my days off. :smt084

Mind you, I can remember when petrol was 3d a pint, but you had to have a boy walking in front of your car waving a flag... :smt082
