That doesn't include you guys with the snip ;)

Seriously though, data research post really.

Girlies on this site, how do you like to be known as a biker?? If someone was going to give you a generalisation name, what would you take offence too and what wouldn't you mind...

I.E

Biker chicks
Girl bikers
Female bikers
Lady riders
Girl Riders

etc etc.....

Im after a little market research, just wondering what the collective ladies would prefer to be known as if given a choice.

Any friends you may have who are bikers, if you could maybe text them as ask their opinion, i'd be very gratefull.

Thanks :D :salut:

Well, I don;t find any truly offensive, although, the fact that I haven't been a girl for quite a few years now leads me to mildly dislike being called one.

I think Female Biker would be my choice of a good name if we have to have one. Biker chicks is common but would alientate a lot of female bikers IMHO as I know a few that would hate to be called chicks. I don't have their numbers but will get them off Stretchie later.

So, for me, top choice is "Female Bikers" followed by "Lady Bikers" and don't really care for the rest.

Hope that helps!

Cheryl.

Thanks Dx:cool:

In biking terms, I think gender is irrelevant. We're all "bikers".

But I'm a bloke, so this opinion probably doesn't count.

Obviously I'm not a girl (even though I occasionally get called one!) but I don't think gender should come into it. A biker is a biker.

I'll ask Ibby what she thinks.

Im with Grunty Giggles on this one:

1) "Female Bikers"
2) "Lady Bikers"

The term "chick" is just a bit.. But then I am a pillion and am yet to get my licence so im not quite sure my opinion is valid.

Me too, but not for long and I think that it is irrelevant anyway. We love bikes, we get on them and enjoy them, hence, we are bikers!

Jabba & Madness, I actually do agree with you, but I think Daimo is asking for market research for business purposes like the sales of biking gear for women so is looking for a term that would not be offensive.

If I'm wrong Daimo, please correct me. If this is the case, the other option for you is the one every shop in the land uses and just have mens and womens departments or sections of a website. No need to call anyone any type of biker then!

Yeah see I considered the "chick" will offend quite a lot of ladies, but thats why im asking as im a guy and not sure ;)

Gender is purley for business reasons as miss Giggles has said.. Not quite what u've thought though ;)

honestly - i don't care!! not ridden for a while now was planning on getting back on the front this year but that (along with anything else we planned) went out the window in Feb, so will be next year now.

I get called chick by two other ladies on the org and it doesn't bother me despite being quite a bit older than them.

Biker, female biker mor lady rider won't upset me. I absolutely hate the terms 'biker chick' or 'biker babe' and it winds me up when females refer to themselves like that, or even worse put it on t-shirts or on their number plates. Grrr ;) :p (no offense to anyone that's done that BTW)

Yeah, I call all my female friends "chick", but just as one of those things. Like, "hey chick, you coming to the BBQ"?

Biker Chick for business purposes is probably not the best way to go though!

the term "chick" doesnt bother me when one of my friends is using it in an affectionate way i.e. "hello chick hows u". "see you later chick"

But in the contect of biking i.e. "biker chick" it just feels a bit  I cant quite explain the difference. But I dislike it because although its not offensive or degretory (sp?), it just doesnt sit right.

I recall a t-shirt I saw once that went along the lines of

"Girls are called Chicks because of the worms they pick up".

No not as in a parasitical infection..........

I thought they was just blokes with bumps. They don't tend to think like ordinary women. ie hair, make up etc. as they know it is a waste of time.

They have been known to jump behind a wall for a pee, drink beer and one or two have been rumoured to let rip with a right smelly one

Edit, well they do in Staley Vegas;)

I like 'Biker' personally. Don't know why there has to be a different label for the different sexes (or genders)

Maybe the female ones can be bikers but the male ones can be boybikers?

No it is only the beer attribute from Staly, hair and makeup would ruin natural beauty of all ladies who don a helmet, how can they remove it and seductively shake their hair loose with half a can of lacquer sticking it where it don't want to go, wriggles off hook, very quickly

Them Burscough ones are the bad trumpers, pity anyone with a leather sniffing fettish round them.

If somebody refered to me as a boybiker I'd more than likely tell them to f'off...

I'm a biker, gender has nothing to do with it IMHO.

I would never refer to a girl who rode a bike as a "bikerbabe" or a "bikerchick" its IMHO a horrible phrase.

as some others have stated I dont see what gender has to do with it. Im a biker (part time). Im part of ladies only bike forum and we are mostly classed as female riders which I prefer to biker. My days of being classed as a bike are well over. I always think of gorgeous skinny blonds when phrase biker babe or chick is used and 99% of the time this is wrong, disappointment ensues. So ramble over - female rider would be my preferred title.

I reckon the only time chick doesn't sound a bit derogatory in the context of riding is when it's used for the purposes of rhyming in the rather flattering phrase, "quick chick".

NB: Despite not being a girl, I feel entitled to comment on this thread on account of having a girl's name and riding a girl's bike. ;)

Why so many males are replying is a little concerning also.

Bit late on this one but I have to say I agree with others about the gender issue. Chick/babe just seem to conjure up images of busty bimbos for some reason, so much so I don't feel I want to be compared to one, if that makes sense...Female biker sounds a bit stand-offish. Lady biker, bit too formal and girl biker too patronising. Biker will do me!

And I agree with Grunty when it comes to defining a biker, if you like bikes, take pleasure (not quite in that way :-P) from riding them and enjoy chatting about them then you qualify, whether you've passed your test or not.

Eh, why can't I delete my own posts?

You can only delete your own post if nobody has replied to it, once its been replied to, it disables the option for the post and the thread to be removed

( unless your a mod )

I can remove the whole thread or lock it for you if you want, but I actually thought it was an interesting discussion which is why I posted in the thread even though last time I looked I wasnt a girl ;)

Daimo
10-06-09, 01:04 PM
Yeah can you lock it please Fizzy. I jsut wanted some reseach but have got the kinda answers I need from the women on here so i've got no further need...

That is unless you think theres more women who should be able to reply later on. Not really that fussed, just didn't want a gender bashing, PC correctness thing to start happening.

I got the data I needed from it, so your call :)
