View Full Version : Where should I go on honeymoon?

Getting married next June, and want to go on honeymoon for probably 2 weeks straight after (dont think we can stretch to 3). We're starting to think about where to go.

We want somewhere that has a mix of luxury, beach and adventure. I dont want to do a typical package holiday. I want to see the real parts of the country and not just the tourist resorts.

Maybe do something like stay in a tourist resort for a week, then go into the countryside for a week.

India appeals to me, but apparently June isn't the right time of the year.

Egypt is the furthest, and best holiday we've had. Other than that we've only been to typical European resorts (Zante, Gran Canaria, Algarve, Majorca, Turkey), so dont really know where to start when going further a field.

Dont want to spend loads, budget will probably depend on how much the rest of the shindig costs.

Any thoughts?

Can't really have a romantic meal in a pub now can you?

Go to Malta, I'd say. Quite a nice little place, and it's only like 80 miles from one end to the other or something, quite a small-ish place, but loads to see... 2 weeks would be a leisurely pace. If you need a hand hit me up in a PM, will advise on where to go/stay. :)

North Cyprus

Cheap in June (not school hols) and not euro - but theyl take everything and anything!
Perfect time heat wise - overwhelming in august.
Not one fast food chain in sight, not at all westernised, tranquil and unspoilt (not your chavy spanish resort!)
Excellent scenery with beautifull places to visit!
Extremely welcoming people.
Beaches are gorgoues!
A whole range of hotels/resturants.
There are really really busy parts, but 10 minutes away and it feels like youve got the Island to yourself!

I am bias as have a place out there - im goin twice this summer! as im 1/4 Turkish Cypriot.

its close to home, without bieng over western! but if you did fancy a slightly more western time (I doubt) you could cross the border!! personally I hate goin on holiday to a place which is a 'hot britain'!! but saying that you wont feel alien there, as every1 speaks english etc..

Just a suggestion! :)

North Cyprus is very nice - greek Cyprus (south) is very touristy, but does have some great sightseeing/ruins etc etc

I lived in the south for 3 years.

Its just a shame theres a divide!! and still a little bit of prejudice here and there!
But tbf it would spoil the North if the borders opened or direct flights became available.

Kenya. :D

A combined beach and safari holiday. I took my daughter a few years ago. 5 days at a beach hotel, 5 days out on safari, then another 5 days back at the hotel. All inclusive too, so very little spending money required!

Malta has already been suggested - Zunkus is over there i would PM him if thats were you decide

we went to the Bahamas which was lovely but if you want to get away from the touristy bits not so good. South of France sounds good

How about http://www.kolocep.com/

Looks like a nice, quiet resort yet is near a city for things to do and is a location for things such as sailing, diving, kayaking etc if you want to do something a bit different.

New Zealand. They speak English, it's beautiful, they're really into outdoor adventure activities, there's beaches, sub-tropical rainforest, lakes, mountains, fiords, glaciers and thermal springs.

On the down side, it's a very long flight and you'd need to spend at least three weeks there.

Good point. I hadn't noticed that he's getting married next June. Probably not the best time to visit NZ.

Thanks for the replies, some useful thoughts.

New Zealand is too far and expensive.

Northern Cyprus and Malta could be excellent suggetions if we stick short haul. Is there much to do in either location?
