Sadly, irresponsible driving is an increasing phenomenon. She should have been sentenced to a stretch. Her actions were just as bad if not worse than bikers convicted of safely speeding at 122mph

I see it all the time in town, where car drivers are oblivious to the emergency service trying to get past. Like the bloke quited in the news item, I always think "I hope that's your mother in the back of that ambulance".
Now that my other half's driving himself to incidents on lights and sirens, he daily recounts tales of idiots trying to squeeze into gaps other traffic's made for him, race him round the north circular even in very poor weather conditions etc. It's endemic.

How does someone that does something like this escape prison?
I also dont read about her being banned from driving for life.

What a complete idiot, the mind boggles sometimes.
On another note though.............
I saw someone in a new aston martin the other day.......they would not bump up the kerb to let an ambulance by.........which left me thinking would I ?
Brand new £100k+ car with £2500 each wheels......would you bump up the kerb and potentially wreck your car, because lets face it no one it going to pay for the damage.
Same situation with red lights, if you go through a red light to let an emergency vehicle by then you will still get the 3 points and £60 fine regardless of how much you fight it.....so would you do it.
Red Herring

I seem to remember a thread on here a while back discussing the red light issue, with a fair number of people stating they wouldn't go through to let an ambulance past. Admittedly not in the same league as the OP but running a close second.....
Disgraceful. Can't begin to think how the elderly chaps relatives feel.
They should have thrown the book at her:-(

I think if she ever needs help in this way, that the ambulance service (if equally moronic) should refuse the right to take her*....see how she likes it. Stupid ffin cow.
*of course this is only said as a heated reply, i wouldn't actually want that to happen

So if you got FPN for that, and decided to go to court. Would the court take into account the circumstances?

Our criminal justice system went soft years ago. People do stupid stuff like this because they know they can get away with it. They have no respect for either other people or the law. We are living in one sick society.

The sledge behind a car.
Absolutely outrageous....that nobody's got any imagination anymore :( the kid had a helmet, gloves & goggles on and the driver is claiming not to have gone above 8mph.
Nothing happened! why can't they have some fun! the poor driver has already been banned & is potentially facing jail
The only reason he should go to jail is for being criminally stupid to drive past a police station, although admittedly, the main road wasn't a bright idea either.

This is a good point.Of course the court would strike the offense if you could prove the circumstances, but thats the point----You would have to prove yourself innocent. That would be very difficult so most people are reluctant to break the rules to let an ambulance get past.Who can blame them,I dont.
The case in Leicester is totally different of course, where ignorant chav deliberately obstructed the ambulance and should have done time for it.

Re. proving it, it would either be a police car, or a camera... in which case CCTV anyway.
But, if it's been tried, then the law is an ass.
Wouldn't even hesitate about crossing the red to get out of the way of the emergency services, in case they're on their way to something for my benefit.
That said, my car isn't worth as much as a stretcher in an ambulance...
I'm pretty sure this is the sort of thing that defines mitigating circumstances, but you'd have to be willing to go to court and try and get records out of the ambulance service about where they were and when.

The ambulance would go through the red light straight after you, im sure you would have a pretty good case with mitigating circumstances.
We could have used her last week in Sennybridge as one of the moving Targets...!

I contested a fixed penalty charge for going into a bus lane to allow an unmarked Police car through traffic and won. This was on the Grays Inn Rd in Central London.

Always have and always will move out of the way for the emergency services. Gladly she is now all over the media so will be in for enough stick where ever she is noticed by the public and I would not be surprised to see another story detailing how she has been involved in some kind of altercation - It should be the case, but with the way much of society is today, it seems almost inevitable.

Hopefully it would never get that far.
If you ever have to move out of the way for an emergency vehicle on a red light then note it down, where, when what time it happened, which emergency services it was etc.
Phone up the police as soon as you can after the incident, report it and get an incident number.
The emergency services keep a record of all their blue light responses and would be able to provide evidence that they had deployed someone in that location at that time.
And Anna, too right this is absolutely disgusting and shocking but unfortunately it does happen all the time, most human beings just dont care about each other like they used to anymore..what a shame :(

Exactly my point, you have to prove yourself innocent. Also there may not be a record of the vehicle because it may turn out to be a private ambulance you got out of the way for and you wont even know who to ask for your proof never mind actually get any response. So most people with any experience of this kind of event will think very hard about breaking the law for a common sense reason again. The law is indeed an ****.

Something did, some sort of immature, deluded, malice. Pulling level with the ambulance and laughing etc??!? Hope vigilantes get to her or you never know what comes around goes around she could be in the back of an ambulance and the paramedics'll take a stop to have a lengthy dump and read the paper.
I do get annoyed when on these police/ambulance/fire documentary programmes they criticise drivers for not getting out of the way in advance. It's a well known issue (excepty with some of the emergency drivers apparently) that many of the siren types used are not directional, especially in built up areas. It's just impossible to tell where it's coming from. Some methods for improving this situation with white noise generators etc have been tried, but I don't think they are in use anywhere.
As for the red light issue, I don't think I'd cross one, just too much likelihood that I'd end up 3/6 points worse off and all the ensuing implications, insurance etc. If the powers-that-be want people to be helpful then they have to show that they are prepared to be flexible, which they aren't. Sorry. I'd only go through a red light if specifically instructed to do so by a "constable in uniform". I don't make the rules, I just play by them.
I certainly pull to the side and make way wherever it's reasonable, and that driver in the article is just a **** and deserves to be locked up.

She's a retard really. I mean there's no problem with overtaking anything blue lights on or not I have and still would overtake something with the blue lights flashing. But you don't overtake something just to slow it down its one of the most retarded things you could ever do.

I dont mean to be funny, but in regards to the comments of would you stop at a red light if flashing lights were behind you knowing you would get done if you didnt... well I can honestly say that I would shift out the way and then deal with what ever comes after.
Same goes for perhaps curbing the car.... honestly it´s not like your jumping into a burning building. It´s very simple get out of the way!

My anatomical studies lead me to believe that's a male skeleton because the hips are not as large as a woman.
Or it could be a pre-pubescent female of approximate age 8.
i really have no idea what i just said.
this idiot should have been locked up for a long time and dont let her have any kids cause they might be as stupid as her. There are some total d"£k heads on the roads today that really dont care whether they kill someone or not. best to put them down first to stop them wasting oxygen and other natural resources :-)
