View Full Version : Firefox new tab
When you open a new tab in Firefox, How do you change the 'home' page i.e. the search engine you use?
I think an AVG update has changed it to yahoo & it's b*gging the h*** out of me :( I want Google :)
I know Tools / options / Home page - but it's not that :???:
Sorry, bit of a lame request this I know but hopefully you can help :D

If I go "File" then "New Tab" it just opens up as (Untitled). Do you mean that yours opens as yahoo?
If I click on the Home page button with the middle mouse button, it opens a new tab with my normal homepage (google)

Oh... does Firefox have a default "new tab" page setup thing?
You mean open mutliple homepages on start up aye?
Can't remember, I moved onto opera, like it better, but will download firefox and tell you.
Are you sure you can?
I can't find a way to do it.
Opera you definately can.

There is also a drop-down list next to the search box on the left side of the address bar where you can select which engine is used for that. I hardly ever type the adress for google anymore, I just use the search box (which I have preset to google.co.uk).
Having previously used the old Mozilla, I then used opera for years, but resented having to use Interdevil Explorer for online banking, so I tried firefox, and love it :)

Yeah I liked Chrome. It could be super fast on my super slow computer at work. But amazingly I couldn't get Googl toolbars to work with it so without Autofill I won't use it. (was amazingly good to copy bookmarks and alphabetize them from your old browser :D)

Stu, you have made the fatal mistake of following my directions. I make no apology for being unable to determine left from right, it is a hardwired fault in my brain.
BTW, I meant right hand side :-dd

First time you fill something the "wand" will pop up and ask if you wanna save it or not.
It should be the small address bar to the right of the main address bar. You can drop down and choose what the default search is. Alternatively if you use the "Speed Dial" page its in the top middle.

oi, its nothing to do with Opera, its my cordless keyboard. And who wants every post they make to be absolutely perfectly spelt? Not me ;)
install this add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2221
this will give you the option of opening your home page with each new tab.
Dunno how your yahoo page is appearing though - do you have any toolbars or other add-ons installed that could be causing this?
Have a browse through about:config and see if you can find the offending url.

It may also be worth running spybot or adaware Stu. Both of those find things that change preset homepages.

Good idea, but i'd recommend http://malwarebytes.org/ - they have a free version that is very highly regarded.
