Just heard that the Hornblower pub in Newport is reopening at the end of the month. Anyone every used to pop down there when it was up and running before?

Apparently used to be a good biker pub but having never been to it i cant say for sure.

Where is it Dan? The name doesn't ring a bell but I might know it by location.

its down the bottom end of newport town centre. by the entrance to the in shops. not far from the weatherspoons (The Tom Toya Lewis one).

Only wondered cause like i said was apparently a good biker pub and played good music (well as far as im concerned lol metal etc).

Just wondered if anyone had gone there previously. O and by the way Craig my old phone died so lost your number.

Down the bottom end of town, was a fantastic pub. Sank many beers there.
As mentioned the juke box was on the ball (lots of the Doors).

Cool! I used to go past when I was younger to have a look at the bikes...

Heard it was a bit rough in the night though?
What are they opening it up as?

Never been there, but, sounds like a nice place to have a few drinks

Was more of a Harley / custom type bikers bar (nothing like the blue oyster club).
Served good beer & wasnt as rough as the NFO or any of the other bars at the top of town.
Cant wait to see what the new one is like

cool - i'd heard it was a bit rough too, but that makes life more interesting anyway lol

From what ya said though Ian P sounds good. Well when it opens i'll pop in for a pint see what its like and maybe we could all try it down the line.

Would be god to find somewhere that actually plays decent music!

The landlord owns some other pubs in newport (Alma being one, which is an interesting place lol). He's hoping to bring it back to its glory and have lots of bands there etc. Just hope he dont make it all out indie cause theres enough of that in newport.

I remember the good old days of annabells (where the basement is in newport) and that one pub that used to be in Jon Frost square by the entrance to the inn shops and had a decent metal night in the week.

showing my age now as it wasnt called annabells in my day, i remember being in the stow away club on stow hill when the Angelic upstarts played a gig there, what a night that was.
the Hornblower will be worth a visite when it opens
