bought myself a tail tidy from my local dealers ( E.C. Bates ) yesterday for my 03 pointy, decided to fit it, all went on a treat until i went to put the numberplate bracket on and most of the holes werent lining up???
so i took it all off and started again. I left the bolts that hold it onto the subframe loose so i could jiggle it around and still no luck. I managed to get the front 2 on, but had to leave the back ones off till i could get to my pillar drill.
so i drilled out the rear 2 holes to a bigger size and it went on a treat. I thought the r&g stuff fitted like a glove?
heres the before and after:

p.s. How dirty will the rear end get when i ride in the wet???

How dirty will the rear end get when i ride in the wet???
VERY!!
I tail tidied my pointy and although it looked loads better, all the cack off the rear wheel gets fired straight at your rear light and plate.
Depending on your speed and positioning you may end up with cack down your back too.
Any pillion you carry will certainly catch it all.
Its not just the wet that gets flicked up, its road dirt and stones too...

It's just the pic angle mate......there's shed loads of clearance, get one fitted
I had exactly the same carry on when i fitted my R&G tail tidy to my K3 pointy, i got my bolts in loose and then tightened them up little by little got them tight i the end but the bolts did'nt go in straight.
Bit rediculouse really when they are supposed to be perfect easy fit and cost 70 quid or summit lol
Looks awesome now tho, who cares about muck and water when it looks so good lol

perry: just had a quick measure and theres 4.5'' of clearance give or take a touch.
Mgaffz: yeah it definatly looks alot better than that hunk of plastic, im not too bovered about it getting dirty now i'll just have to settle with a good looking bike, thats abit on the dirty side. lol
not sure on this but could this be caused by the fact the k3's have a different a*se end on them?

could well be, but the point is that you pay £70+ for an item that is supposedly "made to fit" and yet i had to modify it to get the thing on
I would of sent the bloomin' thing back!

I made my own and it fitted treat :)
I used a bead of silicone sealant round the top edge before I bolted it in place to stop water getting round it and into the electricsand the space under the seat (I keep my windproof in there).
Picture shows it as I was taking it off.
Ive taped a plastic back down to cover my gaps, prob does f all tho

does the rubber gasket that comes with the tail tidy not make it water proof (resistant)??
Mines been on for nearly a year now mate and i've had no probs at all, i believe it does make it water tight but people worry a little more as when you remove the snow plough obviously the bike gets a bit more shi*e up its back :p

sweet, i dont think mine would leak, i did do the bolts up rather tight for extra peace of mind.
