Had my SV650 K5 for 2 weeks now .
its got 1700 miles on the clock
i have put the 700 on it , just been on a long ride about 60 mile and stoped at a location and had a rest and because it was an area with no 1 around i took my helmet off and had a listen to my Scorpian stubby end can with no baffle in giving it some revs then the bike was just idiling while i was having a drink, what i can only explain quite loud nocking/tapping noise coming from the engine kinda like the sound of pistions going up and down . i have never heard this before and i am quite concerned now because i think i could here it while i was driving.
the bike is resticted by ECU and i have been giving it a bit since i have had the bike .

i dont want to take the bike to a garage and then get ripted of because there is nouthing wrong with the bike ,,,,,, can any one help me out on this one.

i hope my bike is ok :(

Lower barn between 6-6.30pm. Normally stick around til about 8ish, but depends on the midges!

If you just wanna stick a post in the Rivington Thread so the rest know to expect you.

Ta!

To be honest, i thought i had a horrific knocking noise coming from my 650 but its the noise of a V-Twin.

Are degrees in Celsius? If so, the fan should turn on at 100 and it shouldn't rise much more than that.

yea the fan came on just seemed strange that it went up and kept rising though i was stationary

The fan only helps if the cooling system is functioning properly. Make sure your coolant level is correct.

When was the last time you checked your oil ?

Remember bike should be on level ( i.e. not on the side stand ) when you do check it.

Loud thumping / knocking noises is not to be ignored, check your oil level !!!

It may well not be low oil causes problems, but its the first thing I'd be checking. The SV lump is a bit noisier than something like my GSXR, but dont ignore thumpnig / knocking noises even if that means taking it to a garage... If its a tinny / rattling noise then thats probably the cam chain tensioner and if so its not IMHO that much to worry about..

The fan will come on around 106 ish, best way to avoid the fan coming on and your bike gettnig hot is to not leave it to idle for extended periods of time. best way of cooling the bike is to ride it and let the air flow through the rad.

My fan kicks in @104 and drops it down to 98.
If the bike is stationary there is no air flow so the temp will rise, thats why there is a fan.

In normal conditions in this country any way the fan is not needed when moving. Until the proposed global warming ever turns up. \\:D/

ticking noise yeah, knocking noise when parked up? Doesn't sound too good. (not to scare you hindle )
The bike would be getting hot if you'd left it parked up to idle though as bikes are designed to be ridden, air flow cools the bike.

i cant explain the noise to me it sounds like 3 pistons going up and down one after the other .

Eek that doesn't sound good there should only be 2 pistons in your bike. Might be worth taking it to a mechanic  I'd see what the rivington barn lot make of it...
