Yup, could have caused some serious issues or could have knocked you off, smashed your helmet, etc.

thats good! aint had a split chain yet and hope i never will but good to know that you can get away with little damage from it. So you just need to get it proper linked at a garage then?

The chain only came with a split link so I'll see I'd I can get another one and hopefully it won't be another weak one

So did I but the chains usually come with both and this just came with a split same as the last one I got and that was fine with just the split but this one was baaaaad

This is why the advice is to only use a split link to ride as far as the garage where you get it riveted properly.

You mean like this?

Damn chains! Coming home and I decided to give it the beans. Coming down the main road and 'ping', chain hit my shoulder. Rolled to the side of the road, got off, and the x-chain is now wrapped round my rear indie because the split link sheared. And I dropped it this morning as well. Not a good day as far as the bikes concerned

ohh hun, lesson learnt there. Glad to hear that you are ok though and no other damage done.

Check the chain over before putting it back on the bike though, and make sure the sprokets are ok, there is a small chance that they have been pulled out of shape when coming off.
