Howdy Doody all.....
As some of you will already know,my eldest son (callum 8 has been doing martial arts for almost 4yrs now.
Well yesterday was his big day (black belt grading day)where myself his mum & younger brother had to take him to Doncaster to Premier Martial A rts headquaters.
The grading itself was just over 2hrs of pain & sweat & i'm pleased/proud to say he passed & is now a 1st dan black belt.
Before the grading started he got to meet Danny Ball who for anyone who remembers is one half of the martial Arts duo STRIKE who were on Britains Got Talent last year,he is an instructor there & was also helping to grade the students,so as well as passing he got his photo taken with him before the grading started.

Excellent! Well done to Callum and well donr to you to encourage him to follow a martial art. What most non martial artists dont understand is that by trainign the body you are also strengthening the mind.
Personaly i do have reservations about children being given a black belt in any martial art but thats a completely different discussion.
I'm an advocate of Aikido myself as it has a very different attitude to most other arts that rely on power and striking and kicking well.

Aww good on him, you must be very proud :D
Its nice to see that some kids are active rather than sitting in front of a TV/Xbox/playstation all day..!

I originaly enrolled him because when he was born he was very premature & very small (still is for his age).Once he started school this affected his confidence greatly as all the other kids were much bigger,so obviously as his dad i wanted to help him to overcome this.Martial Arts has done exactly that,he is now very confident as well as popular & very respectful to everyone he meets. It is very true what you say regarding fitness & is now a finely tuned athlete, lol:D

Well done!
When I first started doing Ju-Jitsu there were a few kids who could quite easily kick my a**!
cool, well done
although i thought it took ages to become a black belt?
4 years is not that long, i recon i could kick his @rse, and i havent even got a belt;)
(dont tell him i said that though)

PMSL...nah 4 years is around the norm(providing you pass each belt 1st time of asking),its the dans which take the longest,it will be around 1 year before he can go for his 2nd dan then after that another 1 to 2 years before 3rd dan, then 2 to 3 years for 4th dan & so on......
Don't worry, your secrets safe with me;):)

All depends on the martial art - I practise shotokan karate and we have some junior black belts but they cannot get to 2nd Dan until they are 18.
I will admit that this does mean its harder for them to stay interested when they are a 1st Dan at 12 and cannot grade again until they are 18!
