When i bought my sv back in March this year it cost me £4k so having a quite understanding wife i agreed to a little trade off of some Jimmy choos (shoes for people who dont know) and some new clothes as its only fair i suppose as i was spending a fair bit (i did also by a lamretta li150 for £2k last year as well).
Well, wife asked me if she could cash in the agreement today so off we went to Biscester today to the designer outlet mall just off the M40.
Well, after all that, she didnt find any she liked and come away with hardly anything.
So a stay of execution is on for the time being.
Has anyone else had to do a trade off to get their machines?
On an another note...
With all this talk of mr Stretchie being awesome on another post (who by the way i havent met but i find awesome) i thought i would tell everybody how awesome i think mrs specialone is.
She has been extremely understanding and very supportive of my desire to get into bikes and didnt even get some shoes (yet).:D:D
I didnt have to trade off anything to get my bike but my gf has been mega understanding about it all.

def helps a hell of a lot. Means i can spend time riding/fixing and cleaning the bike and gf is ok with it. As long as we spend time together ya know

same here lol
The reason I have the sv is because the missus wanted another child, and after the little chap was born she let me choose a new bike from the bike shop.
Bit of an extreme way to get another bike but I wasn't looking to get another one to be honest, but if she wants another child it'll be an Aprilia rsv4 next time.

I think the only tradeoff was that it had to have a comfortable-ish seat for her. Hence why it's an SV and not a gixxer... I should count myself lucky, while they were sorting out the paperwork she noticed that the passenger seat on the Goldwings were padded and had speakers!
corrected..... but when you have a woman who understands that you will be keeping your bike you're sorted!

I told my missus that when i was sitting on my spankin new street triple in the total triumph forecourt i would agree marry her (she's been pestering me for ages)
then i brought the bike from *somewhere else
*only coz i got a better deal mind ;)
I told my Girlfriend that if she ever gave me the choice between bike or her it would be bike hands down. That was at the beginning of the relationship - been together well over a year now.
Everyone should use that sort of disclaimer ;)
i got a bike, my mrs got a patio
the patio was more expensive.
we have 4 kids and 4 bikes (not including visiting mini motos). Wonder if there is a link - must go and get innards removed soon lol

Hahaha.......When Stretchie wanted the Fireblade, I kind of fell in love with it too.....together we covered 3000 miles in 5 weeks on that thing...until he killed it on a road in Wales! When he then had to get another bike....having Rick, the then owner of the Blackbird take me out on it and show me how quickly the needle moved from *0 to *6*.......and then did the same with Stretchie.....we were both a little scared, but he got it and went straight to AR08 with it....still going strong!
Now, as most of you know, he has bought me a Babyblade.....what's the trade off on that I hear you say???
Women are so far superior.....why would I trade with anything I have to spend my money on??? I'll pay him alright, but I won't need to go to the bank........lol

I dont understand this trade-off thing.
Why would you need to bargain with your other half to get anything?
Don't get it.

SK its all done with humour, all done as a bit of fun, keeps life more interesting. my mrs didnt get a patio cos i got a bike at all. we had some "spare" money, she said i want a patio i said i want a bike. one had nothing to do with the other.
well, thats my take on it anyway

That was a much better way of saying what I was trying to. If I get something for Dan.....he says thanks and I may get some extra cuddles and vice versa, but when he wanted the blade and the blackbird...his money, up to him....same with me. We talk about it of course but would never tell eachother how to spend our money.

The same applies to me and matt.
If he wants something, he can have it as long as its his money. If I want something, I'll have it as long as its my money.
If we make a big purchase such as a new TV or something, we'll talk about it and discuss it in terms of whether its a good purchase and good value for money. If its something we both really want, we'l go halves.
TBH I dont think its very fair if your other half says you can have something on the condition that they get something in return

Its wasnt meant as a 'buy me something or you dont get your bike' type of deal, it was light hearted.
Also as i have a concsience, it eases mine if i see my wife with something nice as im riding a brand new bike.
She works full time as well as doing most of the chores and has just finished her degree at the age of 34.
So, i think she deserves it as well and if you put it in a way so it works to your advantage, even better.
If your married, its a different deal if your just going out as you generally share more financial things.
My wife and i dont pool our money, she buys what she wants and vice versa, but as the bike was coming out of our joint savings then its only fair that a little was spent on her as well.

I've been really lucky. Mr Beanie79 is not into bikes, and too be honest isn't thatkeen on me riding them either (other nutters on the road etc) but that said, when he realised how much it meant to me, not only did he say go for it, but he stumped half the cash for it as my birthday present. What a top hubbie!

Took 15 years and the congestion charge to get a bike back after I got married, New bike fund has just been used to build a new outhouse and the new bathroom is the next project. But If she wants a new car soon a new bike is part of the deal

There you go my man, you took her with all the intention to honor the agreement, not your fault she didn't find owt ;)

i'd rather have louboutins than choos to be honest but gotta say if its my money i spend it how i want and vice versa for falc. i had the chance for expensive shoes not long ago but spent it on furniture instead. at the min i can't walk in flats let alone heels so it would've been torture not being able to wear them.

We have an agreement - I don't ask how much he's spent, and he doesn't ask how much I've spent. Simples ;) We both put money into the joint account for bills etc at the start of the month then the rest we can spend on whatever we want :D

Lets be honest, women are just mad when it comes to shoes and handbags.
Whats the difference in a pair for £200 or £800, i tell you, nothing except the price tag.
Wifey looked at a clutch bag the same day £800, WTF.
Wasnt even a everyday bag that would get used, its not like bike gear that offers a bit more safety generally if you spend more.

Yeah but they are cool and make noise, thats next on my wish list by the way.
The average woman wouldnt know the difference between a 50 quid and a 200 quid pair, but we would know the difference between a cheap can and decent one ( i hope we would anyway)
both valid point's they are indeed cool and they do make noise.

I can see that an understanding partner would be an asset, but not too understanding or it might be his 'n' hers RSV4's which would be a tad expensive.
Fortunately, I'm on the single list and I'm free to buy whatever I can afford. No trade-offs, no hassles just a bit less money in the bank account. Shame I need experience more than I need horsepower at the moment.

i wouldn't go mad on a handbag at all to me the cheaper the better as i am always changing them to go with my shoes ;)
I have absolutely no idea what that means...

Yeah....not sure about the obsession with handbags and shoes myself either Tara. Handbags tend to come from Asda, so do Shoes, sometimes Matalan or Tesco or wherever they are decent quality and a good price. I don't see the point in spending silly money on things like that. They get used and eventually thrown away.
I'll spend my money on things for the kitchen.....I want good quality pots and pans that will last me a lifetime and make cooking even more of a joy for me!
