View Full Version : Women & accents

Why is it that some accents make women seem more attractive where, other accents make you tell them you're gay or you've just got out of prison?
Stopping at shrigley hall near macclesfield, there's a bird from warrington working on the bar. It's not like the "do you want a flake in that bodingtons?" type accent, more like softly spoken diana vickers...
And girls from Dublin sound nice when they're often quite frightening. Sothern girls (aka posh) always do the trick as well.
Contrast that lot with a "Barnsley lass" or a gyal from east London, maybe even a lady from deepest, darkest Dudley in the midlands..
So is it just me? (prolly)

Irish birds do give me the horn.

I've got a mixed type of accent myself, never had any comments about it though.
I was born and grew up in South Africa but had an English Mummy and never quite had a South African accent but couldn't pass for being English either.
If I could choose an accent it would definately be French, I think that is such a sexy language.

I don't pick up accents that easily. Don't know what accent I have now. I used to have a soft Welsh accent but not anymore

Hmmmm, not sure where I fit in on this one. I'm from South Wales but was brought up not to have the accent, moved to Gloucester at 16, then London at 20, back to Wales for a year and lived in or around Bristol ever since. Now....to talk to me in a relaxed environment, I have a little bit of a mix really. I suppose I speak the queens english with a big twist of welsh/west country. Now.....phone voice or when I'm working.......I revert to the Queens English proper and no one can really tell where I'm from. I also tend to find that people are intimidated by me in work, so I tend to try not to talk like that in my home life....unless something really annoys me!
As for men......I think think the northern accents are the best for making joke telling sound the best...there's just something about it that works. The punblic school accent is a bit of a turn off for me and certain Scottish accents are wonderful.
Ive got a typical broad Northampton accent, can do posh phone voice though when required (eg at work), anmd i kinda have a thing for guys with an essex accent/twang lol

For some reason people think my German gran is from Wales when she talks. Shes never lived in Wales!
I tell you what accents I can't stand. People who live away from home in StudentLand, come home with a fake la de da accent. They sound flippin rediculous, and its funny how they all get the same one, no matter where in the country University may be.
Glaswegian?! Ok......rough?:smt083

Yep....same as the public schoolboy accent....only the students can't even say it's real so it's even worse. What cracks me up is when family members start speaking like that when someone they consider to be posh is around and you stand there thinking, "WTF..........where did you come from" and having a little giggle at their expense!

Do ladies with scouse accent remind anyone rise if page 3 models?
"hiya my names keeley, I'm 19 and im from everton"
For me it's burds with Derbyshire/Notts, Northern Irish, southern Scottish and Maltese accents... oh, and proper posh burds... not all in the same person cos that would be weird.
Like Dizzy my accent changes when I spend more than 1/2 an hour with my parents, who are Maltese but only speak English in front of their kids. My kids used to rip the mickey out of "Daddy speaking funny foreign when he's at Nana's house".

Canucks sound ok, but most Merkins make me want to gag them. There was an exception once, a US Airforcewoman I dated when I was 22 who got killed when she went head on into a car on an RD250 I lent her. She was from Atlanta, Georgia and sounded lovely, but maybe that's just me being sentimental.

Don't lump us with those south of the border! It's like saying England is part of France (or Quebec is part of Canada)
Irish of any kind.

True, but I find it really difficult to understand someone when they talk in a really really strong accent.
Even better, less conversation the better.

Two of my daughters (20 and 17) attend(ed) private school, and they both sound proper chav most of the time. They can turn the charm on and speak to me very nicely when they need big things paying for though. My son attends private school too, and he sounds very well spoken for a 16 year old round here.
My eldest daughter was brought up in Leicester, then lived in Warwick, then London now back in Warwick with her Norf Lahndan bloke; her accent is royally fecked

Growing up in Germany at an Army school means I do not have much of an accent, or so I thought. Until my friend Emma came to stay and she ridiculed me for sounding like a country bumpkin. She has a soft Edinburgh accent and that is one that I always liked. :flower:
As for Carol, she grew up in Birmingham and moved to the South West as a Teenager. Her accent should be vile, but she actually has such a sexy voice, even her swearing (which she only does rarely unlike me because I am a common hussey) is endearing and the way she says S**t makes my heart melt. :smt060

I was lucky, Dad was in the Tank Regiment and stationed in Germany near a load of Scots, so picked up a gentle Scots croon for a while. From there it was back to Blighty and deepest darkest Dorset, which gave me a bit of a Hardy-esque tone. :D

I had to drop out of things for a little while because I had a few difficult issues to deal with, which combined with an unsympathetic hospital who want to proscribe pain killers and not actually fix the pain, turned me into a moody belligerent rat bag. :smt009
I popped back in a little while ago and found to my amazement that I had actually been missed. Funny, but places like this really do mean something and it is possible that folks you chat to by internet, but may not even recognise in the street, can really touch your heart. :smt041

Personally I like my burds to have a posh accent to disguise their filthy intent. Just my luck to have one with a Salford accent and no intent.
However, it is the sound of the West Yorkshire lass that gets me trembling. I just know that she will cost me a fortune, leave me a penniless wreck and regretting everything.

Although I am actually Scottish I have the famous RAF nothing accent where you don't sound like you come from anywhere.
Although because of this I subconciously imitate accents when I am with people with accents. I've worked with a guy from Yorkshire for the last 2 weeks and met his son towards the end of the two weeks. He asked me where I used to live in yorkshire, convinced that although I didn't have a full blown accent there were hints in it that he thought I used to live there when I was younger.

I think most of the scottish accents are quite appealing, with the possible exception of broad Glaswegian.
I think I speak fairly neutral south east english, which is great for being understood but about as attractive as Milton Keynes.
