Basically, 18 at the weekend, excessively drank last night, now have a serious hang over. Best cure?

.. and I can't say I won't do it again cos I think that'd be lying.

Fluids. Lots of fluids.

I tended to go for that still lucozade stuff, but any fluids really. I always craved curries, probably because you've recked your tastebuds and need something with a powerful flavour to register!

Gave up drinking 3 months ago and miss the social aspect, don't miss the hangovers though!

Sleep and fluids.
Ice Lollies help alot towards the dry awful mouth too

Bloody Mary or Red Eye

Red Eye is easy peasy & can be made whilst suffering :-

1/2 pt Lager + 1/2 pt Tomato Juice + 1 raw egg to top it off

This should be downed in 1 go - but 2 or 3 gulps is acceptable for a novice

Bloody Mary

Difficult to make if you're truly suffering - perhaps someone could make it for you ? :-

If you have a cocktail shaker then mix all the ingredients together, add ice & shake then serve; if you don't, then make in a 1/2pt tumbler as follows :-

Tomato Juice (no more than 1/2 a glass full)

Worcestershire Sauce - to individual taste

Fresh Lime Juice - 1 whole lime squeezed for juice (or lemon if don't have a lime)

1 heaped teaspoonful of horseradish (coarse or smooth it's up to you)

Black pepper & either Garlic or Celery Salt to individual taste.

Stir well then add large measure of Vodka

Stir again and add ice if required (if not req'd then add more tomato juice & / or vodka to fill glass)

Drink slowly

Having never suffered from hangover in my life I am unable to understand what you're feeling right now - but I have it on the highest authority that the above do work - I had to make enough of them during my time in the bar / pub trade :-)

irn bru - its a cure all for everything. It is also good at giving indigestion and making children hyper - good when your relatives bring kids to your house to visit. a few glasses of the golden nectar and the kids need to travel home attached to roof rack. It also stains clothing, carpet etc and is great for cleaning stainless steel sinks

I get MEGA bad hangovers and have tried every "cure" in the book and have found that the really bad ones just don't get any better and the only thing to do is laze about in your PJ's all day before falling asleep on the couch watching rubbish tell and then go to bed at half 8 and sleep through til the next morning!

so works but it has to be fresh stuff not the stuff that sits on the shelves for months! even better go and sniff the air when they are making the stuff:smt082

but glad you had a good night!

You need fluids and blood sugar. Fruit juice is good (try watering it down if it's too strong) as are bananas.

For future reference, a pint of water and something to eat before crashing out helps reduce the morning-after feeling.

A good sh@g can work wonders too (release lots of endorphins, natures pain killers) if you can persuade the missus near the bloated, alcoholic-alike you probably are right now... ;)

Had a bottle of water on way home as I mixed a lot of stuff and felt sick, and was, never mind.

And I'll have to work on the sh'g idea, misses-less at the minute!

That is true, it was a special occasion so :)

Thanks, yeah it was pretty good, its better when you've only spent a tenner and your mates are getting you wasted.

I don't usually get hangovers so don't really complain, just yesterday a lot went down the hatch, its only just begun :D

I find re-reading the countless other 'hangover cure' thread normally helps me :)

Anyway. Alcohol is a diarehetic. So, over the course of the night you lose a lot of fluid and salt. The headache is your brain shrinking through lack of water and pulling away from your skull.
So in the morning a big greasy fry up with a lot of water or fruit juice and a big massive poo to get rid of the remnants of the alcohol normally does the trick.

Don't you find that your toast goes all soggy when you put the water on it? :smt102

Just keep drinking, it postpones the inevitable, a hangover after a week long bender is far preferable to one every day of the week.

Same here, I thought it was that alcohol promotes the body's production of acetaldehydes, which make you feel rough!

Coupla pints of water when i get in helps.

Or depending what your plans are for the rest of the day, a couple of swift curer's / hair o' the dug. :salut:

considering i am also recovering today, here is what i have done:

1)stayed in bed til about 10 am
2)put fan on, watched tv in bed for as long as possible while eating cereal and drinking lots of water
3)watched sundays top gear (i was in scotland) to take my mind off it
4) i find sending pathetic txts and telling people about your hangover and having them take the pee also entertains you slightly (thanks smegs)
5) now im eating. LOTS

HTH

but is it working?

I've drank plenty of fluids as mouth was horribly dry this morning. Sounds more productive than I have been though.

isnt that slightly contradictory advice wolfie? will the schag not mean more fluids will be lost, both thru sweating and, well, you know, boy paste.

I go for flat full strength Coke for the following reasons:

a) Water - Coke is mostly water and that's what your body needs most
b) Sugar - Immediate energy to get you moving
c) Phosphoric Acid - Bad for your teeth, but great for your upset stomach
d) Caffeine - Stimulant to get you moving, but needs plenty of water as it's also a diuretic

Once this kicks in you've got an hour to take the next two steps:

1) Head to the cafe and order a full english. Don't let it intimidate you, after two mouthfuls it's ambrosia.
2) Follow up with a couple of soluble aspirin to deal with any lingering headache

Just my preferences,

Keith.

You shouldn't be getting hangovers at your age... I don't.

I just feel slightly drunk when I wake up and then feel a little sick.

My cure is a small bottle of 7up , that makes me better right away . Also I have heard that an Omellette with onion in it helps kick start the system into processing all the nasties a lot earlier and quicker too .

Or you're just lucky :(

Mine usually last between a few hours or a whole day, even into the second day.

Cures.

Lucazade, water, irn bru, fizzy juice.

Hair of the Dog.

Lots of greasy food, none of this salad pish.

Sitting in a sauna/steam room/outside in the baking sun.

HTH :)

Same, except I never feel sick just wake up really thirsty and hungry, sometimes a little headache but nothing bad enough to keep me in bed.

And I used to drink about about 20 pints a night out. Must be one of the lucky few.

Yep :)

If it doesn't work, at least the praticing was fun ;)

But honestly, hair of the dog is the only cure.

Oh believe me I have. Only ever had one hang over after going to a party with a free bar.

The next day was terrible. Couldn't focus on my computer screen, couldn't use the lift and didn't eat till tea time.

I tried to have breakfast but almost threw up at the smell of it.

I could do with a cure now! Guess I'll be off to that scottish restaurant for lunch, I'll be "loving it".

Soemhow I woke up in my clothes with a new window & a burn on my carpet. No explanation.

Paid £30 for a taxi to go "south of the river".

Feel bad.

To agree with this and quote Miyagi-San
