View Full Version : The .Org Trackday - 020709
Its been a while since I'd been out with the camera so I though today would be a good day for photo's...how wrong was I!
Just a few from me because the light was really harsh and something went wrong with the camera so most of them are unusable.
It all took place here!

And here are some of the participants...I know not all of them were from the .org.

Wahay, nice one. They dont really come any stickier than that in a road legal tyre! Those tyres would be in their element in todays temperatures.
Glad you had fun.

Yeh Indy, perfect for the SV :)
Just that somebody mentioned a fair number of crazy moves going on.
The shorter circuit probably had an effect on the number of riders around you. Its just over a mile so wont take too long for the faster riders to start lapping slower riders. On the full distance track you may have had more time before this started to happen.
Still, sounds like most of you had a ball. Gutted I wasnt there :-(
Here are the only five photos of my bike in the two laps I managed before smashing it into a gazillion pieces.

Also they had a lot more experienced riders than the groups so theere were some inters in novices and some very fast packs in inters.
Some peeps just cant get it in their head that its not a race tho  if they wanna overtake me, which they did plenty of times, they know they can fly past me on their gixxers750 just after Druids, so why stuff it up the inside of me on a really bogus line as i'm tryig for the gazillionth time to get my knee down i just dont know!
The heat didn't help as some just took for granted the heat in the track and didnt bother warming tyres and just started with flying laps...and ended in the scenery. (not refering to gary btw, them big boys i mean)
And everyone gets silly in the sun too, so it was a mix of things i guess.
However it didnt spoil my day one bit tbh, I'm stil buzzing

I reckon, if we hadn't worn one, we'd probably have got a bit more respect lol and maybe not had it done so often!!
Live and learn eh? It only mildly spoiled a few laps, but the thing is he did say if there were people spoiling the day they would be black flagged for the session or whatever, but despite the offs and some pretty reckless driving in the novice session it never happened.
Apart from the odd number of crashes in Novices I had no complaints RE overtakes. Suppose there was one slightly "Oh no that's fine - I didn't really want that piece of tarmac anyway" roll of the eyes. But it was more in the line of "well cheers mate" than "Arghhhhh Help!". Maybe the ugliness of the CBR created an exclusion zone or something? I do remember showering that morning so it can't have been me.
That said I didn't see any of the shenanigans going on in inters or advanced.

Well as you didn't have to walk home because Lucas had your keys...
I don't think at anyone from the .org caused anyone one else any real cause for concern - I don know there were a lot of probably unwarranted apologies going between us in Group 1, but I know the couple of issues I thought I had caused turned out to be non-issues when discussed.
But yes there were some people out there I wasn't happy being on the same track as.

Good pics guys. I could never be good enough, or brave enough to do a track day. Especially if they mix up experienced novice track riders like that. Plus I get spooked by IL4s going yeeeoooooooaaawwwwn on the overtake:(

Yeh as she says. Sorry Luke missed your question till i saw this.
I got taken out by a van in October but thankfully the bike was far worse off then me. So i got myself a nice red pointy one.
Didnt quite feel as nimble on it as i did on my old naked one tho.
Dizzy...anone is good enough to do a trackday. Its not a race , contrary t the way some ride like it is. Its a great chance for you and your bike to push yourselves to your own limits.
And its a great experience too, so go do one and catch the bug ;)

Yeh totally agree with this matey. After my off i was sooo sketched out by left bends and using the front brake. A day at Pembrey proper gave me some confidence back. Got soo much tolearn but really feel much more in control and can throw the bike around alot more now.
Really really recomend one. I was worried about being the slowest one there but i actually held my own quite well. So you might surprise yourself!

Yeh he was a bit battered and bruised yesterday, well you would be after someone else has no option but to ride over you as you slid into the litter. But he managed to ride his bike home. Text him earlier to check on him but no reply as yet so i'm hoping he's sleeping and resting.
Is that because you have clipons on?
I think thats main part as my hands/palms are really hurting today. the wider flatter bars in the naked made it easier to throw about of course but i also think the lack of a front fairing meant i could actually see where my front wheel was as opposed to "visualising" it.
but saying that on the naked i didnt scrape my pegs but i did on the fairy one. Its just me, i know plenty of other who would take my bike on that track and throw it about far more properly than i did :)

Actually I ended up doing about three separate people up into Druids I think and the line wasn't dirty at all, perfectly reasonable place to take people to be honest, if anyone was unhappy with those manoeuvres please feel free to let me know.
But yes, there were some 'enthusiastic' people out there it seems.
they shouldn't have mixed the groups up, not just that, there was a few idiots on their IL4s overtaking on entry point into corners or cutting in on the outside then slowing down a lot :smt013 at one point I was under one of them and close enough to take his keys  why no black flag to those few i have no idea
The groups were mixed up yes but this wasn't the issue, it was people's attitudes and you need to be reeaaaalll careful with your comments about those 'idiots on their IL4s' as I caught wind of comments about SV's in novice, you aren't immune from bad riding just because you are on an SV.
Yeah I was a bit miffed at that - I even wore one of those stupid vests so people would give me a bit more room/time to learn, but some of them didn't bother and often I found I was being done on the inside of druids under a yellow flag...
Again, this had nothing to do with the yellow vests but people's attitudes, yes as a novice and your first track day (whether or not this was your first specifically I don't know) you should wear them, they do it for a reason.
I wore one on my first, plenty of people do and there was even a guy in Advanced who was wearing one (though I think if it's your first track day you should never be in Advanced but there may have been other reasons).

I dont mind being overtaken by people i know like your goodself and pretty much evryone else on our sessions as i knw you're all considerate enough to let me know you're there and do it in a manner that means i can get out your line with no fuss. Some of the others who left it a little too late that made me wonder why they went for it. I'm sure they were in their lids thinking "oh fek, i've left this a bit close, hope that fella on the Sv dont fall on me or something"
As you all saw i wasn't out there trying to set times or overtake anyone so it didnt bother me that everyone passed me, in fact everytime i recongnised one of my mates whizz past i'd think "go on mate, give it some" and watch then fly away.
Loved it when Grant passed me later in the day as i could hear Thor the God of Thunder approach me from behind! :) Ace

I'm glad to hear that and I hope this was the case for the other two people I pulled the same manoeuvre on (I think it was Teriyakimonkey and Demonz).
In all honesty we all make mistakes though, once at Mallory I tried to pull a stupid overtake on a girl on an R6 and it was never going to stick, thankfully she recognised this, backed off earlier than normal and let me back in before the corner, I waved thank you and then made a point of finding her after that session and apologised and thanked her profusely for saving my butt and at the time I did think "oh crap, I hope she can help."
On the same track day a guy on a GSXR1000 tried to stuff me up the inside going into the hairpin and got all kinds of bent out of shape before I'd even started tipping in, at which point he was already shaking his head at himself because he knew he'd screwed up, these things happen so I just gave him plenty of room, he was a really nice guy and we ended up having a friendly epic battle later on in the day.
:) Ace
In all honesty, when me and Rich were watching the Inters whilst I was timing Jambo I think you looked really good out there, everyone in Inters from our garage did.

Dizzy...anone is good enough to do a trackday. Its not a race , contrary t the way some ride like it is. Its a great chance for you and your bike to push yourselves to your own limits.
And its a great experience too, so go do one and catch the bug ;)
Exactly, the best advice/comment a friend once said about track days is "it's not a race, nobody wins anything when they wave the chequered flag".

Last year at Brands i was in novices and had a nice time of it. I was stuffing people up the inside at Druids myself believe it or not. So you can just imagine how slow that group must have been lol.
I also ended up having a nice little battle with a guy on a 749dark, and it was like we swapped places on every other bend all the way thru our session. It was ace cos it was fast and furious for us both yet totally friendly. However his garage was right at the other end and i never got a chance to chat to the fella.
Doing Brands with so many people i knew tho was just something else, i thouroughly enjoyed every drop of sweat

was the kwak ok on the ride home?
I was either invisible on the day or going too fast to get in any of these pictures, oh wait a minute the second option can't be true as I got lapped by a twist and go moped 3 times!!!

It was the stealth-black bike
so that bright yellow jacket was a cloak of invisibility not something so people could give me a wide birth then, that might explain some of the overtaking moves then!

Sort of, was running about 92 degrees on the motorway and then we hit traffic in town and was struggling to keep it around the 105-108 mark, time for a brand new rad me thinks.

just seen these pics, some good'uns there. how much LEAN angle is cazza getting! nearly riding off the edge of the tyre!

The problem I think I need to address is my tendency to counter-lean! I seem to think I'm sailing one of those mad catamaran things and that I should lean in the opposite direction.
It takes a really conscious effort to shift my weight and my bum into the corner, as opposed to away from it. It's as if I'm trying to look round the corner, rather than through it. Weird. Must try harder.

maybe so, but that much lean angle, is daaamn cool and seeing you're profile picture, you really need someleathers with knee sliders! :D
Cazza, your line through that corner was a lot wider than most other peoples as well which I think possibly accounts for the lean angle a bit as well.

have a look at how troy bayliss rode his bikes to WSBK titles...he "counter leaned". I'm a firm beleiver that there is no actual textbook correct riding style, more that ther is a style that you are comfy with and works for you

Thats true but it is possible for you to be totally comfy and yet not use the best techniques. If you were able to train yourself to lean off the bike towards the inside of the bend you gain an advantage in that the bike does not need to lean as much, or rather that as there is more room for it to lean further there is likely a higher speed route through the corner as a result.
No real right or wrong way to do it, but there is a more or less optimal way to do it. Just comes down to technique.

Hanging off the bike lowers the CoG and gives the tyres an easier time, meaning they'll take more abuse before they start to slide. Also you can encounter ground clearance issues if you don't keep the bike more upright.
Cazza, I can teach you to hang off properly if you like
