There are much worse ways of handling poultry and these chicks are the lucky ones. It doesn't look very nice, but the process is one that doesn't cause any physical harm to the chicks and judging by the fact that there weren't chicks dying all over the place, the stress is obviously not at such a level that it can deemed cruelty.

I don't like it, but it's not as bad as it could be. When I bred pigs, they were really lucky......big fields to roam around in and turf up, lots of trees and bushes to nose around in and they were reared slowly and naturally, not pumped with food. The resulting meat was so much tastier than anything you can buy and I'd love to do it again one day. It's nice to be able to turn your back on the questionable side of the industry. I boycott the supermarkets that use bad suppliers, like Tescos and just buy from places that have a traceable supply that more than exceeds standards.

is the american guy from the first video the same one that does the voice for the honda car adverts?

If you think about how we get our mass produced food its never going to look that nice. But thats life i guess. As long as its as painless as possible its ok. Each to their own though.

Worked in a turkey factory for a few months - interesting :-)

We try to buy meat from a local farm that does that sort of thing, bloomin expensive but comparing the taste of even the best chicken from a supermarket to one of these is like comparing a glass of water with a glass of orange juice, the supermarket one really is that bland...

+1

Farmer's markets can be a good source of good meat, and it's not always stupidly expensive. Wendover market has a chap that sells his own lamb at very sensible prices - loin chops go well on the BBQ and bone out noisettes (chops rolled up into a circle with the fat round the edge) taste wonderful roasted. The chicken from another farmer there is also out of this world on the taste-o-meter. Low food-miles and known provenance - we havent bought meat from a supermarket for years.
