Anybody created any ring tones from mp3s or CD tracks? What method did you use?

Depending on your phone i guess..but i sent mp3 tracks from my comp to my phone by bluetooth and saved them. Then used relevant ringtone settings to choose the track i wanted as the ringtone.

HTH?

so most phones take mp3 files direct then?

Most modern phones that can play music, yeh. My Samsund D900i aint exactly new out, its been about for 3 or 4 yrs now i think and it does so i guess most others of the same age do too???

I paid £45 for it second hand off ebay so i know its not just the expensive bling phones that'll do it :)

Like spidey, however i load mine on to the memory card then point the ring tone to that. Most new phones (Most with memory cards anyhoo) will run MP3 as ring tones.

only time you would want to mess with them is if you only want a 10 second clip (which the phone would then loop).

Means you can have that cool intro/guitar riff without the less than great bits that sometimes surround it :)

why of course :-)

Having made the assumption I went looking - and there is a Windows version of the software I use on Linux - its called Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Never used the windows version, but the Linux version is pretty simple - just select the bit you want via dragging over the wave form of an imported mp3 using trial and error to get the start and end points correct, select edit then trim and Roberts your fathers sibling.

Audacity did the trick perfectly, had to pull down an additional .dll for MP3 export but sorted.

[runs to dig out the CD collection.....]

You didn't see the warning on the forums about that .dll being a trojan that will fill your HD with Porn did you?

Oh well, at least you have plausible deniability when the OH sees it

:smt069(waits for Spidey to complain the .dll didnt fill his HD with porn):smt069

:smt101:smt026:D:o:p and as many OTHER "this is a joke" smiles that may be fitting

Try again - I messed up the cut and paste in the original link - didnt delete all of the pre-filled "http://" - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Kind of spoils the gag in my last post tho - I guess the secret to good comedy IS timing :)

We had a competition in work to see who could come up with the naffest ringtone . I usually download a tone from Youtube in FLV format , then convert it to MP3 , then use Audacity to crop the file to the right size then Bluetooth it over to my phone ............ I won by the way with using the music from the old Pearl and Dean adverts from the cinema ;)

I use this to edit audio. The free version is all you need for ringtones.
